    Steve Kean

You thought he'd been sacked didn't you?

Blackburn to reward Kean with new deal despite fans' calls for Scot to be sacked

    By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 10:30 PM on 24th October 2011

Blackburn Rovers are ready to give Steve Kean a new contract in a show of support to their beleaguered manager.

Rovers are bottom of the Premier League table, they have taken just five points from nine Premier League fixtures this term and have won only six out of 30 games since Kean replaced Sam Allardyce last December.

Disgruntled fans have protested against Kean for the past three successive home league games and, following their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, they unfurled ‘Kean Out’ banners and chanted for the Scot to be dismissed by owners Venky’s.

However, after talks on Monday, the owners have decided to stand by their man and negotiate improved terms to the contract he signed in January which ties him to the club until 2013.

Venky’s believe the 44-year-old has the backing of his players and are willing to entrust him with turning the club’s fortunes around.

Former Chelsea coach Paul Clement is already helping to assist Kean and the club may yet bring in a director of football to share the burden further.

Ridiculous move. Owners seemingly intent on winding up the fans will only end in tears, or worse.

        Great idea that.

The fans, rightly or wrongly, seem to despise him.

So give him a new contract, that'll go down well!

Too be honest, its nice to see some owners not sack the manager before the first 12 months is up. He may be ****, I dont know becuase ive not seen Blackburn much this season. But at least there not getting rid straight away.

Steve Kean Premiership managerial record at Blackburn

              PL...W...D...L
              30...6....9...15

If I remember rightly about half of those wins came soon after he took over

Edit: They have won 3 of the last 23 Premiership games.

                These guys are ****ing nuts.

Way to wind up the fans and increase Kean's compensation package when he inevitably gets the tin tack.

I think they're just too chicken to sack him.

I quite like the way he seems to be trying to get them to play. But a bit like Sammy Lee he doesn't seem capable of putting a cutting edge to decent moves.

I think they are signing him up because of the way he seems to be developing the likes of Hoilett and Rochina. If he keeps them in the division and turns them into highly saleable assets then I think the owners will be happy.

I can't see him keeping them up though. Not unless they spend massive amounts in january.

That certainly looks a danger. I'm not sure I'd keep faith with him.

He must also have the backing of the players.

Was gonna say he's their Hodgson but unluckily for them they've already experienced Hodgson aswell! Tough times.

This Venky's lot are awful, put no money in, 10s and 10s of false promises and apparently got rid of all the staff who know the league to be run by some woman in India who admitted when they first took over that she knew nothing about football!
