        Surely it'll be Messi again.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I couldn't believe it when I heard on commentary the other day that Rooney joined Manchester United in 2004. Seven years ago!

          Tempus fugit.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

For a record fee of 30 million in those days - equates to more than what Chavski paid for Torres today!

What about Wenger's nomination? To me thats a bigger joke, if he wasn't French he wouldn't be shortlisted

Talk about trying to make a something out of nothing to justify his place

"Even during tough times, Arsene Wenger has remained faithful to his attack-minded, teamwork-based principles and approach. The second half of the 2010/11 campaign was difficult for Arsenal, as the team could only manage a final placing of fourth in the Premier League, but they nevertheless secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League by successfully negotiating the play-off round at the start of the following season.

In the 2010/11 edition of the tournament, the Gunners pulled off a remarkable victory over Barcelona in the first leg of their Round of 16 encounter, but could not hang on to their lead in the return leg in Catalonia. Wenger continues to unearth a host of talented young players, bringing them through the ranks and frequently selling them on for healthy profits."

The contenders in full: Eric Abidal (France), Sergio Aguero (Argentina), Karim Benzema (France), Iker Casillas (Spain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Dani Alves (Brazil), Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon), Cesc Fabregas (Spain), Diego Forlan (Uruguay), Andres Iniesta (Spain), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Muller (Germany), Nani (Portugal), Neymar (Brazil), Mesut Ozil (Germany), Gerard Pique (Spain), Wayne Rooney (England), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Holland), Luis Suarez (Uruguay), David Villa (Spain), Xabi Alonso (Spain), Xavi (Spain)
Theres a whole heap of players on that list who have been very unspectacular during the last season. Some of the Barca/Spain lads are getting on the list just for being part of a successful team even though their individual form has been a bit meh.

Why Benzema and Forlan are on the list i have no idea, they must be there on name alone.

AS PTP has said in the Suareez thread there are about 4 world class individuals in that list (Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Xavi) , then a group including Suarez, Aguero and Rooney then bunch of famous name players living off past glories.
                    We come not to play.

Bizarre thread. Why not start a thread about Suarez's nomination instead of talking about one their players
Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

I'd put Aguero in the world class bracket with Ronaldo, Messi, Iniesta and Xavi.
