It's not denial really, is it? There's bound to be something crop up with this and you cant have different rules for different nations, so one rule that treats everyone the same, is for the best.

What's wrong with black armbands, featuring poppies? Why is that not enough?

No but you still seem unhappy about the outcome.

Thing is, even black arm bands are the same in terms of the doors they open.
          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Yeah but black armbands has been done a million times and they're fairly generic.

Also, England have played on this date before, without the clamour for poppies. Why now?

Smacks of being 'fashionable' and bandwagon jumping for many IMO.

Why not now? Since the Iraq war there has been increasing pride in the Army and the publics support for them. Its just a natural progression of things. England have a star on there shirt now, they never used too. Was that because it was fashionable. Yep, but its part of the shirt now. You could reduce everything that happens pretty much to 'bandwagon jumping'

Final thoughts on it are this:

I see no problem remembering the dead and paying respect to them in a dignified manner. This has however become rather undignified, and turned into something its not.

Its hardly like there asking for handballs to be legalised is it?

I see no problem with a symbol of rememberance on the shirts. Its wasnt done in the past no, but if people want to do it now. Then why not.

It is, as most have said, hysteria over something very tiny.

Fifa bans political, religious or commercial messages on shirts.
So what about the Umbro/Adidas/Nike logos then....

Bit different when the company has manufactured the garments

Yes but Umbro pay the FA for that privilege, they are in effect 'sponsoring' England. TBH, I don't really care either way (I don't wear a poppy myself). The FA seem happy with their compromise of poppies on armbands; though quite why the Prime Minister, Sports minister and Duke of Cambridge needed to get involve is a mystery.

The rules are the rules and everyone knows them, so where's the disgrace?

The disgrace is in the English, as usual, thinking they are different from everyone else and should be able to be treated differently.
You can't tar the entire english population with the same brush . The problem is in a large proportion of the media and the media alone. There are agendas at play and I don't care what country you're talking about, if you have the media telling you something over and over again, then a percentage of people will start believing its true.

I love how some of the papers are reporting a FIFA back down or the FA/Government winning, because they can wear an armband with a poppy on. That was always allowed they haven't won anything.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
