as much as i hate Chelsea it would have been pretty cool and unique from an architectural point of view to see the old power station turned into a stadium.

Would have propelled Chelsea into one of the worlds leading clubs in an instant. Incredible, iconic site and a football stadium there would have been amazing.

Shame. Oh well. I'm glad they didn't get it.
        Oh I don't know.

          Exactly on both points.

I'm sure I read that if they didn't get this site then the options were fairly limited.

Not sure where they can go now?
          Hello mert.

There's an Earl's court site that I think is still viable. Or they can act in a more reasonable way toward their fans who part own the current ground and redevelop.

Think it was supposed to be going for housing and the Chavs had (unsuccessfully) tried to muscle in.

Something like that anyway - I'm sure I posted a link once upon a time.

                  This might have been it:

Roman Abramovich has failed in his attempt to move Chelsea Football Club to the site of the Earls Court exhibition centre.

The Russian billionaire was unable to prevent planning permission being granted to use the 77-acre site for housing. He wants to relocate to a 65,000-capacity stadium, with his agents arguing that going to Earls Court could have enabled houses to be built at Chelsea's present 41,000-seat Stamford Bridge ground.

He had submitted objections to the plans by owner Capital and Counties to build 808 homes on the Seagrave Road car park site. But Hammersmith & Fulham council last night approved its application to provide townhouses and apartments around a public garden square.

The project includes 200 affordable homes to be made available for local council estate residents, enabling CapCo to go ahead with the more contentious parts of the project, including demolition of the exhibition venue. The plans now have to be approved by Boris Johnson.

Mr Abramovich is understood to be willing to spend up to £450million on a new arena - a way of recouping some of the £800million that he has invested in the club.

Hmmm...in that case I'm not sure where they go next other than back to trying for redevelopment. There are some large sites in the area but I doubt any of them are quite big enough.
