We'll have two cup games in 4 days. We play Southampton away just before we play them.
    Are we winning?

Unbelievable assistance from the ref today. Again.
      Modifying post.

I am none too convinced there is a decent ref in the whole division

I find myself wincing more and more often when I hear who is officiating our games

This discussion is quite interesting, espesially if you look at from an objektive view. There will always be the "the ref cost us the game, etc" moaning, but has the game now become so quick that 1 ref just can't handle it alone?
You could say the refs needs to be fitter, but do you want a athlete, or someone who under stabs the game? There is only so many that has both, and still have the motivation the take the criticism week after week.
Many other sports uses two refs, is this the way for football as well? Or start stop of games with video?

I think that it has got to the stage where you need to introduce technology or some ability to challenge a refereeing decision.

I know that the game moves quickly but for incidents where the play has stopped and there is a key incident a challenge isn't going to waste much time. eg if a goal was awarded and the defending team thinks that there was an offside, or a freekick on the edge of the box or a penalty is awarded that appears to be a dive, play has been stopped why not allow a challenge? The reason for me is that the FA see the referees as infallible and will rarely admit a mistake was made, but they are only human and it is being analysed anyway on TV, the other arguement is that this would only be available at the highest level, well we also only have goal line technology at the highest level and while this is useful it is rarely ever called upon. Most weeks we see incorrect decisions which cost teams a couple of challenges per game would help the teams and the officials.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Its not just our games its every game I watch

Any yes technology should be introduced

Its a nonsense that it isnt used more and players spend time arguing over decisions anyway and by the time the arguments done a referee in the stands could have watched it over and over and give an actual informed decision

Just looking at United for instance

With video technology Rojo would and should have been sent off twice in the last few weeks. So should Herrera for one of his

Yesterday they got the advantage when Fehgouli (sp) was sent off and on review I'm not sure that is a red

I dont think every incident should be analysed but tackles like them normally lead to a break in play anyway (for treatment etc..)

Yeah there's just way too many high profile mistakes happening every week. It's tough job and in real time mistakes are bound to happen. Agree that somehow tech needs to be introduced to minimise these errors without messing with the flow of the sport.

As you say it happens in more and more games.
I wonder if the different playing styles actually has an effect. If you boot it upfield as soon as you get the ball the ref will have no chance of getting a good view of the next duel. If you play your way from the back, with loads of passes, the ref will have better time to get in right position. Which one tactic gives you an advantage when it comes to decisions from the ref I have no idea, but there could be a difference.

In those situations surely there is a need for the referee to rely on his assistant for help in these matters as the assistant would almost certainly be closer to the incident. Then again I am not convinced that many assistants ever get involved in more than an offside decision.

I don't think that you can have complete refereeing by television (i.e. someone constantly in the referee's ear telling him the decision) but I think that you need the ability to challenge certain incidents, I think that no such system would be perfect or applicable to all incidents and would may be limited to calls that a referee has made rather than things that he hasn't given/seen but that at least would be a start.

Surely if there were more stringent measures they couldn't award the Scum their obligatory 10 extra points a season though?
                          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I've always thought there should be four linesman. And why is it always a throw on when any part of the ball touches the line? Shouldn't it be the entire ball?

It is when the entire ball crosses the line (or at least it is supposed to be)

But it hardly is, plenty of times it rolls over half way and the linesman calls it.
