Manchester United eye £12m move for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka
• Club have scouted Ukrainian and could meet buy-out clause
• Player favours move to Old Trafford over Liverpool
Louis van Gaal is considering paying Yevhen Konoplyanka’s €15m (£12.1m) buyout clause, with the Dinipro winger willing to join despite Manchester United not being in next season’s Champions League.
United have scouted Konoplyyanka, who is also interesting Liverpool and Schalke 04, on more than one occasion, the most recent being on Sunday when Dinipro played Metalurg Donetsk.
Andrey Stetsenko, Dinpro’s sporting director who is in charge of transfers, accepts that Konoplyanka could leave the club.
“Our scouts are working to find his replacement. Sooner or later Konoplyanka will leave Dnipro,” he said. “We know that English, Spanish and German clubs are monitoring the situation and are interested in the player. But we have no offers. His contract has a buy out clause worth €15m for foreign clubs. For Ukrainian clubs the buy out is more.”
While United and Schalke scouts were at Sunday’s game, with Dinipro officials having ensured they were accommodated, it is understood that Liverpool retain an interest. Yet despite the Merseyside club having the attraction of Champions League football, Konoplyanka is minded to sign for United.
Dinopro are in a state of flux with the manager, Juande Ramos, having refused a new contract and left the club on Thursday.
The winger, who impressed for Ukraine during Euro 2012, is wanted by Van Gaal as he looks to overhaul his wide options, as Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Nani have all consistently disappointed.
One player who will not be joining United this summer, despite being linked with a move, is Toni Kroos. The Guardian reported on Thursday that Van Gaal had decided against persuing the Bayern Munich midfielder, who admitted on Friday that he expects to stay at the German champions.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
It is amazing how many journalists know what Louis Van Gaal is thinking already. Not to mention in this case knowing Konoplyanka's mind too. Truly, truly amazing telepathic skillz.
They'd be idiots not to have scouted players like him anyway.
As an aside, I expect a lot of clubs will be linked with a lot of players based in Ukraine over the next few weeks/months, agents trying to get their clients out and money men trying to liquidate assets.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
"On the flight the mischievous defender is rumoured to have made a passenger announcement, explaining that there had been a change to the in-flight menu and that it would be bacon sandwiches all round."
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
Either the Luke Shaw deal has fallen through or was never going to happen or Evra is happy to sit on the bench and play second fiddle to Shaw which I cannot see.
