Luke Shaw’s prospective transfer to Manchester United has stalled, with the left-back considering his options and determined not to rush into any move from Southampton.
United had believed signing Shaw was virtually a done deal, with much of the work credited to David Moyes before he was sacked as manager, and, though they remain in a strong position, they are no longer the favourites for his signature.
The decision to give Patrice Evra a one-year contract extension, which emerged on Friday and could be viewed as a surprise, may be a recognition from United that the 20-times champions could yet miss out on Shaw.
If the Frenchman had not been retained and the deal to sign Shaw does collapse, that would have left the unconvincing Alexander Büttner as the sole left-back for Louis van Gaal, the new manager.
The development will alert a host of clubs both in the Premier League and on the continent who retain an interest in the 18-year-old Shaw, with Chelsea among those monitoring the situation.
The west London club are currently keeping only a watching brief given their current financial situation, with it being understood that Chelsea are not willingto pay Southampton’s asking price of £30m and would offer Shaw a salary of around £60,000 a week compared with the £100,000 United were considering paying.
Furthermore Shaw’s elevation in status to being part of Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad means he will move only to a club where he will be first-choice and César Azpilicueta has impressed at left-back under José Mourinho.
The Chelsea manager does require a left-back as Ashley Cole seems certain to be released. And with David Luiz’s impending £40m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, Branislav Ivanovic could again be asked to play at centre-back with Mourinho moving Azpilicueta back across to right-back, opening up the left-back berth for Shaw.
That rug really tied the room together.

Konoplyanka:If you have two options - go to the " Manchester United "or stay in the" Dnepr "and play in the Champions League - that choose?
- Most likely, would have remained in the "Dnepr". But let's not get ahead.

Without wanting to sounds like a broken record, but outside of PL players how many truly big names did UTD sign, even at their peak? Veron, RVN after that I cannot think of any established players they signed.Originally posted by Leyton388 View Post
Players knocking them back left right and centre. I think their fans are going to be in for a shock due to no CL football.
So much for being the self labled "Biggest club in the world"
Also, I believe alot of players saw that Utd was mainly Ferguson, and with him gone they have lost something.
As for biggest club in the world - one of the reason Utd as a collective unit are terrified of us is that it will only take us one or two successful season to get to their level - Christ we haven't won the league in over twenty years and are easily still the second biggest club in England. One or two league wins, or hell even close runs like this year will close that gap considerably, and with our current owners we will exploit that commercially.

Another one for the list!
Speaking with De Telegraaf, Robben said:
“Manchester United? That’s not an option. I am staying at Bayern Munich. Period.
“And I cannot imagine that Bayern would want to sell me. I have only just renewed my contract and we are happy with each other. It would have been a different story had I been unhappy.
“I would have been open to a move then, because I had a great time under Van Gaal at Bayern. He has been very important for my career. However, fact is that I am very happy at my current club.
“Van Gaal and [Pep] Guardiola are the best coaches I have ever worked with. I am feeling well and I’m going nowhere. There’s a zero per cent chance that I will join Manchester United.
“I think United did great to appoint Van Gaal.”Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

**** them. I'm going to laugh at them for as long as possible and their delusional fans. The sense of self entitlement from that **** stain of a football club eclipses even Real Madrid's delusion of grandeur.
"We're Man United we do what we want"
Not any ****ing more you don't.
Matt Busby Liverpool Captain"
Say that to any united fan and watch their heads explode.
