Robin van Persie and David Moyes hit skids

DAVID MOYES is facing a battle to win over Manchester United star Robin van Persie.

Van Persie, Moyes, Van Persie cut a frustrated figure at Anfield on Sunday and looked close to losing his cool several times

Starsport can reveal the United striker has yet to be convinced by new Old Trafford boss Moyes, who replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer.

The Dutchman has told pals he is missing Fergie, who was key in persuading him to quit Arsenal for Old Trafford a year ago in a £25m deal.

It is understood Van Persie also has misgivings about some of Moyes' training methods.

Former Everton boss Moyes now has his work cut out to convince Van Persie he is the right man for the United hotseat.

Despite starting the season brightly, with two goals in the champions' first two games, the 30-year-old appeared out of sorts in the goalless draw with Chelsea and 1-0 defeat at Liverpool.

Van Persie cut a frustrated figure at Anfield on Sunday and looked close to losing his cool several times.

A friend of Van Persie - who has been the Premier League's top scorer for the last two seasons - said: "Robin isn't happy and when that's the case he can't hide it on the pitch.

"When he's frustrated he is capable of doing something silly, and you could see that against Liverpool.

"He feels it isn't the same with the new manager as he misses working with Fergie, who he really loved playing under. Some of Moyes' training methods are not to his liking either."

Probably nothing in it but still good to see
My Dutch mate believes that RvP is only a consistent striker when a team is set up to provide the right type of chances for him (explaining his relatively modest record for the national team). Moyes attacking tactics are very different to Wenger and Fergussons - I hope it results in him having a **** season.

i only said yesterday or monday, that it won't be long before a couple of senior players won't see eye to eye with moyes

thing is, doesn't matter if it's true or not - it's out there now - hopefully the knives are just slowly starting to sharpen and the media sharks will have a sniff of blood - they haven't had the chance to tear into united for years due to fear of ferguson

Who'd have thought 18 months ago that Hodgson would be in charge of England and Moyes at United.

              Oh I don't know.

I was talking to a mate about his the other night, I said you have to wonder if players like RVP are happy with him, he's played the majority of his career under Wenger and a year with Fergie, even from the out side its an obvious come down. Its like going from LSD to licking damp wallpaper.

I was going to say that it says a lot about the standards of British coaches but actually I think there is a pretty wide range of approaches and abilities knocking about at the minute. I suspect is says more about the conservatism of many of those in positions of power in English football. Makes me wonder if FSG aren't more visionary than they are given credit for.

van percy picked up a small injury during their pre season tour and his agent was muttering about it being due to dinosaur training methods and training 3 times a day

Moyes knows how to ruin a striker for sure? Did he have any success at Everton with Strikers?

Jelavic before he coached goals out of him and the Yak maybe?

you would hope that many a journalist see this as payback for being treated like **** by fergie.

i'm sure i've seen stats about moyes and strikers and it's horrific - off top my head i think his highest scorer in a season in the prem was about 12 goals or something
