Another reference point for potential fallout is the Goodwillie case.. seems he had lots of previous for assault, but his criminal case for rape was dropped & was via a civil case that he was ruled to be a rapist on balance of probabilities.

Even though there’s no civil case here, as has been mentioned the evidence is out there for all to see. So fans, employees, sponsors etc are by default judging him on the balance of probabilities.

Not sure it’s the type of thing that can just disappear no matter how much talent he has.

Surely they could have sacked him when it first broke......

What I find really distasteful is the effort to spin out a narrative of that he's innocent, he isn't. We've all seen and heard what he's done.

I can't imagine the women's team will be overly keen on having him around the issue here will be who is perceived to offer more.

Bananas that he's not been booted into non-league...

She is above criticism imo. It is impossible to know what is going through her head, but the only thing that is for sure is that she tried to call for help by recording him and by making sure those recording saw the light of day. She tried to get help by allowing the legal process to get as far as it did.

Since then she has been let down either by the legal system, her friends, her family or a combination of all.

The girl could just be mentally beaten at this point and returning to her abuser might be the only way to keep family and "friends" or might be the only way to stave off imtimidation or whatever.

We can never truly know what causes a woman (or man for that matter) to return to an abuser.

It is so frustrating and confusing to see it happen. To see a person who suffered return to the person that caused it. We on the outside can look on with a logical pov and say it makes no sense but control is not something that can be quantified easily and all anyone can do if you are a person on the outside seeing something like that happen in your own lives is make sure that the person returning to an abuser knows she/he has someone that is not cutting her/him off and that she/he still has someone to turn to if needed.

The worst thing to do, imo, is to make the person feel like she/he is in the wrong or that they are weak and force her/him to rely on the abuser more.

Thats it isnt it. The clips or whatever leaked onto social media and everyone saw and heard them (rightly or wrongly) The lack of conviction for it is almost irrelevant. Hes scum. Dont need a court to tell us that.

Now if he rehabilitates himself and goes on to learn from his old ways. Lets see, but at the moment. Nothing of the sort has happened. Just trying to slot back and earn his millions.

Yup, the narrative from his cheerleaders on sm is “he’s been cleared” which isn’t the case at all.

Exactly. Said it before, but not being convicted is not the same thing as being innocent.

A representative of the player said: “There’s no real substance to any of this, it being a mix of old news, speculation, half-truths and completely untrue claims. Mason is 21, he has been cleared and should be allowed the opportunity to rebuild and move forward with his young life.”
Cleared? The key witness (victim) withdrawing is not the same as being cleared FFS

Edit - hadn't seen the most recent replies which are saying the same thing

Frightening that actual abuse that people saw the videos of and heard the audios of just gets flippantly remaked upon as being "old news" and "completely untrue claims"

Really sends out a message that abusers can be painted as victims and that actual victims will run the risk of having their courage in coming forward being used against them.

Cases like this will only lead to more abused people staying silent and more and more of them either being killed at the hands of their abusers or taking their own lives.

Best thing that could happen here is Greenwood gets hit by a bus because an enabled/protected abuser does not change.

Really hope that there are some strong characters amongst that Man U squad that simply will not put up with having to train alongside a cowardly abuser like Greenwood and that are vocal about it to management and the club hierachy.

Totally. The fact that there ended up being no charge in this instance is not innocence.

I don’t see anyway out of it for them other than parting ways with him.

Probably the only way they could do that cleanly would be to pay out his contract and let him become a free agent.

Legally they cannot sack him thanks to him not being convicted of any wrong doing.

And even if they did say to him that they wanted to terminate his contract and pay him for whatever it is worth, that route is probably full of potential legal potholes for the club also.
