Pure head in the sand stuff.Originally posted by BigChief View PostWrong. Last season was the aberration when we lost both Suarez and Sturridge and failed to replace at least one even half adequately. On top of that we had to manage Gerrards retirement in the classiest way possible.
That aberration seems to have been rectified this season by getting our premier striker target early doors. Plus adding Firmino.
Utd were extremely lucky we were in such generous mood and De Gea had his best season ever to save their blushes (that's right the goalie. Not Falcao, RvP, Di Maria, Shaw, Rooney but the goalie).
I enjoy this site alot but at times the myopia on display from a fair number of posters is both breathtaking and frustrating in equal measure.Last edited by spud_gun; 19-07-15, 02:22 PM.

It's not just about comparing player with player, there ave been times over the last 20 years when I have thought comparing quality of players we have had a squads of comparible quality, the difference has been that they have been able to translate that into a better team unit, and hide/cover for the limitations of their lesser players (particularly when Ferguson was in charge), where haven't been able to do that. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The only reason they are in the CL is because we blew it last season. Not because of LVG's tactical mastery or their brilliant transfers. We handed the CL on a platter to them.
They are building up a decent squad though. Not exactly value for money but who cares when they have money to burn. They are building up a squad of experienced (maybe too experienced) players who can turn games.

I may be considered a fool for spending so much time on Redcafe but by being so I get the 'word on the street' as it were. For the majority of last season (on a daily basis) there were many dissenting voices against LvG for his tactics, etc.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostPure head in the sand stuff.

LvG only became a hero when we completely put our own nails into our own coffin. My head is not in the sand, if anything it's up the enemies' arse.
One tit for another.

Lvg is a hope I have of them ****ing it up next season. I don't think he's all he's cracked up to be and he got very lucky a number of times last season, especially at the end when we handed it to them. Can be no doubts they are buying good players but how those players settle in and cope with this league will determine how good their squad is.

You know it's ****ed up when Fat Sam is calling you out for too many long balls.Originally posted by BigChief View PostI may be considered a fool for spending so much time on Redcafe but by being so I get the 'word on the street' as it were. His long out ball to Fellaini and having a 'keeper bang in form certainly helped Van Gaal. His insistence on taking a player out of the game to dummy the taking of *every* free kick within 30 yards of the opposition's goal is incredibly naff too.
Manchester United aren't miles ahead of us; They're hanging on to the coat tails of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City by throwing incredible amounts of money at their various problems in the hope it will come good.

I think they will challenge Chelsea for the league this season. Hateful cunts have so much money at their disposal and seem able to strengthen exactly where it's neededOriginally posted by spud_gun View PostPure head in the sand stuff.

Man City and Arsenal will probably fill the two remaining CL spots. Our signings will improve us but not enough IMO

don't agree Norbs, imo there's a big gap between both those clubs, and utd were fortunate last season due to our inconsistent form and losing Suarez and Sturridge.Originally posted by Norbs View PostI think they will challenge Chelsea for the league this season. You do know Spurs finished higher than us last season?Originally posted by Bender View Postdon't agree Norbs, imo there's a big gap between both those clubs, and utd were fortunate last season due to our inconsistent form and losing Suarez and Sturridge.
The way you're going on it's us who threw away 4th.
We were never really in the running.

Lets have a look at a good old Squad comparison.
Liverpool-------------------------------------- United
Mignolet ------------------------------------------DeGea
Bogdan ------------------------------------------Valdes
Clyne ------------------------------------------Darmain
Skrtel ------------------------------------------Jones
Sakho -----------------------------------------Smalling
Moreno ------------------------------------------Rojo
Flanagan ------------------------------------------Shaw
Lovren ------------------------------------------Evans
Lucas ----------------------------------------Schneiderlin
Henderson ----------------------------------------Herrera
Milner -------------------------------------Schweinsteiger
Can -----------------------------------------Blind
Coutinho -----------------------------------------Mata
Firmino ----------------------------------------DiMaria
Lallana ----------------------------------------Carrick
Sturridge ----------------------------------------Rooney
Benteke ----------------------------------------Depay
Ibe ----------------------------------------Januzaj
Origi ----------------------------------------Wilson
Ings ---------------------------------------Hernandez
2 Keepers, 6 Defenders, 7 midfielders, 5 forwards. Tried to compare the players to their counterparts best I could, player I think is better is in bold if it's a draw theyre both in italics.
United(In my opinion according to this
) aren't ahead, in fact I had us dead even for players that are better on each side.
The times they are a changin'.
