Why has this word suddenly crept into the football lexicon? It's never used in the right context.

There are rare occasions when it is used correctly but mostly people mean "****" when they say turgid in a sporting context.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Well let's hope that today's live football isn't excessively ornate.

In my mind, turgid means "stiff".
        Oh I don't know.

Surely that's wrong. Going from turgid to rigid?

Swollen, rigid, turgid, stiff... It all depends on the context...

Managers deserve time, no rash decisions Mr Glazer!!

Swansea were absolutely hopeless aswell and were still very comfortable all game.

Man United's financial forecasts for investors all based on reaching quarterfinals of cups (and 3rd in PL) .... Out of FA Cup in 3rd round

Red cafe's very funny reading at the moment. Five home defeats since he took over. They used to lose one a season FFS! Everyone still confident the Glazers won't pull the trigger?
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.
