The fact Fergie had to talk Scholes out of retirement to rescue the midfield showed how desperate they were, and how short of cash to buy a top class replacement. Ferguson was a great manager who for the last two years was getting a (relatively) **** team to play far far better than the sum of their parts. Now Moyes is left with a defence without a single player who you could say will be there in three years time, a midfield that is easily by-passed without Carrick anchoring it, and with three class attackers and a young kid who could turn out to be class but wasn't even on the bench tonight.

I think Moyes has been dealt a fairly ****ty hand, compounded by the transfer ****-ups the club made in the summer. That said, his own overly negative tactics have compounded this further still.

Mata was a good signing. He needs two more transfer windows to be able to put his stamp on the side.
Good work, a decent logical argument.....copy & paste into red cafe

Yep, other than Ferguson, Charlton is the big 'football man' for the Glazers and he's also a Moyes cheerleader. Sacking him now would tacit admissions on both their parts that they ****ed up royally and their gigantic egos won't allow that to happen.

              Which is nice.

Surely the Glazers would step in though if they are going to take a financial hit by not making the Champions League next season? All of their financial planning is budgeted around progress in that competition.

I think they will give him into next season personally, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Glazers overrule and replace him for fear of lost future revenues. It will cost an absolute fortune to sack him though so it is a tricky one!

I have a horrible feeling they'll win 3-0 against Olympiacos, and it'll be a repeat of our second half against the Greek side in 2004. Rooney to score late on. You heard it here first.

They can't replace him unless they have advisors other than Charlton and Ferguson working for them. I mean, they arguably don't know enough about football to make a decision of who the next manager would be.
                    Are we winning?

Their thinking is do it 'the United way', and in doing so win favour with those hardcore United fans who think they're occupying the moral high ground, frequently boast "we don't sack managers at United" and sing Moyes' name at home and away games. Sit tight until the summer, let Moyes spend millions and then they'll be back. Seems that's what they think.

The only time I can see a dramatic change is if Moyes starts getting it in the neck at the match.

Spoke to a few hardcore United mates last night (by text and on social media) who until recently all but 2-3 of them properly backed Moyes and wanted him to be given time and money. Among the lads I know (one of whom was in Athens), there isn't one left who thinks he's the man for the job. Not one.

That's worrying, although hardly surprising. No matter how different and special they've deluded themselves into thinking they are they'll all be chanting for him to be sacked soon enough.

hopefully they'll get an away goal & they'll get knocked out heroically losing 3-1; that way he'll keep his job a bit longer.

Agreed it is a bit of a worry, but I'd be amazed if that lack of belief in Moyes turned into getting stick at the match. As you say they think they're very special indeed and I reckon they'll still be singing his name. If they turned on him things would get 'interesting' but I feel sure that until that happens, they won't even think about sacking him.

                                Bugger.

Honestly, can any Man Utd fan or executive say what they're building towards? Even though FSG were newbies when they arrived, they couldn't tell what Hodgson was trying to do. Everton under Moyes were all about getting it to the wings quickly, with the occasional direct play to the front men. Is that truly what Man Utd fans and executives who back him want?
