Superb they won last night as it pretty much guarantees Moyes will be given the summer to complete his job of ruining them. He's going to set them back years

He'll be sacked by Christmas, but it will be too late, the damage will have already been done

I have to admit, when I saw this headline I thought he was talking about Danny, Nani and Ashley.

Someone told me that referring to Manchester Utd as 'Man U' is offensive as it relates to the Munich song. Do their supporters really find 'Man U' offensive or is that just bollocks?

Man .U. is not a term United fans refer to themselves as. The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club. The "u" is meant to be "you" by the rival fans.

An early example of its usage is this chant by West Brom fans: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure- rotting in your grave". The origin of "Man .u." is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards.

Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own man you /u versions to insult all of the lads who died at munich.

"Man .U. Man .U. went on a plane Man .U. Man .U. never came back again"

                and..

"Man .U. Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word "munich").

I hope this makes it clearer that saying man .u. is an insult, particularly to the older supporters and to see United fans using it now is shameful. I hope a few might read this, understand and spread the word.
Must admit I'd never heard of it myself until that discussion. But reading that it's not really on. It's beyond the realm of banter.

Just amazed I'd never heard of it before.

I dont know how people thought it would be funny to sing stuff like that. Something seriously wrong with people. I do hear plenty of UTD fans and even commentators say Man U though. I think now days most people just abbreviate it.

I say man u in conversation for no other reason than it's shorter than saying Mancheester United.

However, I type Manchester United because I have mild OCD.

I've *never* been picked up on it by a scum fan.

Yeah, free of context I think its fine these days. But for their own would be a different matter, would be surprised to see many using it knowing the history.

Comparison I see is the s!n. We don't get insulted when other teams fans don't boycott it, however anyone posting from it here would be quickly shot down.

But I'm just assuming based on quoted post from manc forums so I could be wrong.

Not an abbreviation I really use myself anyways. Its not a chore to type 2 more letters. So not too concerned.

No matter how much I dislike mancs would never want to be associated with that type of stuff.

Aye me neither, I've never heard that but I always circumnavigate the issue by calling them Scum anyways.

Aye United fans I know won't stand for being referred to as Man U, although I must say their reasoning has always struck me as bizarre. It's a hell of a stretch and 99.9% of people saying 'Man U' have absolutely no idea about their extremely tenuous reasons for being offended by it. People say Sheff U too.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Never heard that either, always shorten it to Man U. As Shaggy says it's a massive stretch to infer what they apparently do infer from it.
