I would agree with the first bit, but how many opportunities do you get to manage one of the big clubs (and Man Utd are still one of the big clubs). If the opportunity comes along for him, it's a hell of a risk to turn it down and hope he gets another chance in future.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI think Martinez is very happy at Everton and he's an intelligent bloke. I doubt very much that he would be daft enough to make the jump at this stage of his career. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Look what's happening to David Moyes. Will his United tenure enhance his career? It might boost his bank balance for a bit.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI would agree with the first bit, but how many opportunities do you get to manage one of the big clubs (and Man Utd are still one of the big clubs). One million per cent correct IMO. It's getting the right guy though isn't it?
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

No it won't enhance his career given what has happened, but he didn't know that at the time. He was ambitious and was right to make the move, if he'd turned it down do you think he would have got another opportunity?Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostLook what's happening to David Moyes. Money talks. If he gets Everton into Europe I doubt he will as he will have a decent project going on but when ridiculous amounts of money is being thrown about, you never know.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI really doubt that. The job wouldn't be right for him at the moment. Everton is perfect for Martinez at this stage of his career. They say our days are numbered were not famous anymore but Scousers rule the country like we've always done before!

Ok I guess its safe to say now that the way he had a go at phil jones yesterday post match made me laugh. Said something like 'if he was a keeper, that wouldve been a great save'.
It actually gave the impression that he hates it there and the players too.
Ive got a bit of a soft spot for him after that.

Everyone I know thought he was an idiot for taking the job, it was never going to work out for him. Following on from Ferguson was an almost impossible task. It'll take a few years for the United supporters to view their club realistically. Unless a top top manager comes in and somehow resurrects their form then basically the next manager will be just as ****ed as Moyes was.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostNo it won't enhance his career given what has happened, but he didn't know that at the time. Yes true, it was always going to be a tough job whoever took it but I still maintain that for Moyes it was probably a once in a career opportunity, so while it may have been an impossible act to follow if he wanted a top job at the age of 50 it was probably going to be his only chance. I don't think it will have done too much damage to his reputation he will still be able to walk into a midtable PL job when one comes available, so he isn't much further behind than when he left Everton.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostEveryone I know thought he was an idiot for taking the job, it was never going to work out for him. Martinez being a little younger may get a second opportunity if he turns the first approach from a big club down, but he would have to be successful at Everton, and move on fairly quickly, if he stays at Everton for too long he will stagnate and his time waiting for a top job to come will pass him by, for me that was why Moyes had to take the Man Utd job there was nowhere else to go.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
