They may as well appoint Giggs because the class of 92 will make life difficult for any other manager, comments in the media, leaks to journalists etc.. If LVG/Ancelotti or whoever don't hit the ground running they'll immediately be under pressure with the shadow of Giggs and his cronies hanging over them.

If you're the new coach you might want Giggs on the staff, but maybe not a "surprised & disappointed" Giggs

Gary Neville calls for Ryan Giggs to be considered as replacement for David Moyes at Manchester United

After Giggs began life as caretaker manager with an impressive win over Norwich, the clamour for the Welshman to be given the job permanently is growing

Ed Woodward is facing a growing movement of support for Ryan Giggs to become permanent manager at Manchester United, with former club captain Gary Neville leading calls for the Welshman to be considered for the role on a full-time basis.

Giggs, named as interim manager for the remainder of this season following the sacking of David Moyes last week, has been ruled out as a contender for the manager’s job by senior figures at Old Trafford, who regard the appointment of an experienced, trophy-winning coach as imperative in the wake of the disastrous experiment with Moyes.

Woodward, United’s executive vice-chairman, is looking to recruit a high-profile name to replace Moyes and Holland coach Louis van Gaal remains the front-runner, despite a hitch over the backroom staff he wishes to take to United.

Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti was also a strong contender but he looks certain to stay at the Bernabéu after his side clinched a place in the Champions League final.

However, players and staff at Old Trafford were privately expressing support for Giggs to take the job permanently even before he guided United to a 4-0 win against Norwich City in his opening game in charge and Sir Alex Ferguson voiced his backing for the 40-year-old during a function in Manchester last Thursday.

Sources close to Giggs have admitted to being surprised and disappointed by the United hierarchy’s insistence that he will not be considered as Moyes’s permanent successor.

And with United still to play three more games under Giggs during the final 10 days of the season, Neville insists those fixtures should give his former team-mate a chance to stake a claim for the job.

“He started well on Saturday,” Neville said, “so let him have two or three more games to see whether he settles into the position and whether he can bed in and be given that role.

“I don’t think there’s any certainty wherever you go. There’s the idea that Ryan hasn’t got experience, but he knows the club. And then there’s the idea that Van Gaal has massive experience, but he doesn’t know the Premier League.

“At the end of the day the owners will do what they want to do. I suppose in some ways they want an experienced hand, but I personally would like to see a British manager be appointed because Manchester United have always appointed British managers. We’ll wait and see.”

Neville, a close friend of Giggs, claims there are several examples of untried managers enjoying success at major clubs when given the opportunity to take charge.

“There is no hard and fast rule in appointing managers nowadays,” Neville said. “You see some managers go in who have little experience – Diego Simeone, Pep Guardiola or Kenny Dalglish all those years ago.

Then there’s the idea of managers who have one or two good seasons like Jose Mourinho. It worked for Chelsea and then Andre Villas-Boas didn’t.

“You’ve seen different examples of how sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t work, and until you appoint someone, you haven’t got a clue whether it’s going to work or not.

"From that point of view, people say Ryan’s got no experience, but then is Van Gaal going to work? We don’t know. It’s a call for people at the club.”

This will be great,he's such a legend for them he'd be given loads of time to get it right before they'd even contemplate sacking him. Loads of time to **** it up good and proper

So the clamour is building to replace a manager who didn't have the right experience and was out of his depth, with someone who has no experience and is out of his depth.

              Love it.

Unfortunately I doubt the Glazers will bow to sentimentality.

But if they don't bow to sentimentality it will inevitably lead to ructions. The 'Co92' think they ****in own the place and carry on like the Utd Mafia - they will make life hell for LvG or whoever gets it.

If it causes problems then I expect the owners will **** them off too. They can't afford to risk their investment any more.

Similar happened at Ajax didn't it? Loads of ex players got involved and righted the ship. Probably not exactly the same, but its worked there.
                        *Except Michael, who died.

Yeah but they are players like De Boer, Bergkamp etc. Not Nicky Butt and Phil Neville
