The real problem here is that it makes things easier for the likes of City, PSG etc who can now use this as fair market rate and make it easier to get around FFP.

Fair market rate is just that though. Up to others to get to that position. We are making strides, but we started from a lower position. So itll take longer to catch up.
      *Except Michael, who died.

Real Madrid may have something to say about that.

And they have South America to themselves which United have no foothold in at all. Whereas United have to share the Far East with the likes of us and the rest of Europe.
        Oh I don't know.

I would be amazed if the £75m figure isn't the maximum they can potentially earn per season, not the amount they get just for running around in Adidas's shirts. For example £5m per season might be for CL qualification, £8m for winning the prem etc.

Without doubt it will be heavily weighted to performance; now way Adidas are schmucks

They must be - Nike ran the numbers and said "Feck that" - and they would have solid data about kits sold etc.

But if it is performance related then hopefully it will not even come close to that figure.

well they will now be selling manu merchandise which they wouldn't have been selling.
                who's arsed?

When we went with Warrior Ayre commented that our deal was potentially worth £25m more than what Warrior where paying because we got back the right to control all our merchandising which was previously controlled by Adidas. Maybe that's also a part of the United deal leading to the massive figures mentioned. Whatever way it is its a massive amount of money. They've set the bar very high. Maybe the bent deals that City and PSG were doing helped in a way because United were able to say, that's what they are getting off sponsors, we want massive amounts too.

Another season out of the CL and Adidas are going to be crying in their sleep. Nike got it right, fair play to them. Adidas must be hitting a slump as this smells of desperation.

Warrior beginning to eat into some of the Adidas market perhaps?

Warrior being in the bidding forced Adidas to offer stupid amounts. The dickheads. Warrior that is.

Well taking us from Adidas, given how things have turned out, was one such loss for Adidas.

The marginson this deal must be razor thin though. If they project sales of 1.5 billion, have to pay out 750m(worst case scenario I know) - that leave 750m to cover production, advertisment/promotion, distribution, the shops cut/discount and still make a profit.

I think Nike played a stormer - they had ten?? years of data to work with and decided that this time around the figures did not work.

They'll have a kit similar to Bayern Munich in future then.

                            Smart.

                            meh!

750m? You could buy us for 400m, and build the addias trabs arena like a massive shoebox for £350m as well us wearing their kits for nowt.

From a business sense it's actually not that high a risk from Adidas, yes it's a lot of money but they've just invested in a business that has been successful every year bar 1 for the past 25 years and I'd imagine they've inserted (much like Warrior) some KPI's i.e. failure to reach Europe or winning the league which will see how much they get paid differ dependant on performances.

We might not like it but they're always (for now) going to have big brands very keen to be involved with them; if there's a sustained period of under-performance we'll see this change but for now we're just going to have to accept this.

Silver lining is that with success they've not set the benchmark for the next sponsorship deal
