Rooney is a brilliant player to be fair. He's was meant to have an average season and managed to get 17 goals 10 assists. RVP only 31 and world class. Phil Jones.. Yeh he's pretty much Phil Jones. They just need to work on their defence.

Just with Van gaal alone their are a better side than last year. They will challenge for the champs league spots alright.

Here is their team lined up with players that qualify as above average:

      De Gea
      Gap Gap Gap Shaw
      Carrick Herrera
      Gap(Januzaj?) Mata Gap(Rooney?)
      RvP

That's it. They talk about not having Europe, like Liverpool last season, to propel them up the table but they need a hell of a lot more players too. RvP is no Suarez.

Big name players turning them down means they probably won't improve on what they have. Even though we've lost Suarez and have extra games, we're in a much healthier state than them.
      One tit for another.

Rooney is overhyped & not at his best, but no way is he not better than average.
        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

They are ****ing **** and packed full of cunts. They'll do well to finish within 15 points of us.

You're right, he is better than average. But now I'm doubting Carrick. He just about hits the average bar nowadays.

Rooney is not even close to brilliant. He could well be the most overrated player in the history of football. Wilfred Bony also scored 17 goals so its hardly incredible. I wouldn't be happy with my "best" striker only getting 17 including penalties.

RVP is past his prime and has max 2 good seasons left. He's also injury prone

They will no doubt be a better side, and challenge for top 4- but we are better.

Agree on Rooney. He's far from terrible but is really overrated. He's a striker and he only gets into the low to mid teens in goals most seasons. Hence why Fergie has always been looking to shunt him elsewhere in the team to accommodate a striker who's actually good at scoring regular goals. 300k a week

IMO he also lacks the positional sense to play as a lone striker, or any position that might need tracking back (such as the wide attacking midfielders in a 4231). So basically the only place you can play him is as a number 10 - somewhere United are already overstocked - given a choice between Rooney or Mata in that place, I know who I'd choose and its not the fella on £300k a week.

LVG kind of had a pop at the club for being too commercially focussed. Say's its difficult sometimes to align that with sporting success.First day and making waves.

On the Utd shirt deal, loads of contingencies and bonus clauses to reach maximum payout. Also Utd lose parts (not all) of the royalties of the players they have commercial deals with.

From the Glazer point of view, this is manna from heaven, for the Utd supporter, little will change.

I think Van Gaal will enjoy some early success before going on to implode in spectacular fashion.

Their first 5 games guarantees early success!
