Yet, the vast majority of the talk over the last few days is about how ManU fans have become insufferable polyps on the anus of humanity with their new-found wonder of how their team is gonna sweep all before them, with just the odd smattering of sense among them rightfully concerned about the balance of the side being out of whack.

Call that the target if you must have a context-explanation, but I would think it's perfectly obvious what the send-up is.
