I think he's somewhere on the Ricketts - van Nistelrooy spectrum. My impression is that he has very quick reactions and instinctive spatial intelligence. Next season is the big test.

Bale, yes definitetly. Ronaldo? You're kidding. Who are Madrid going to buy to replace his 50+ goals every season? There's no one on the planet Madrid can buy apart from Messi and Barca simply won't sell.

I think Bale will see out another season at Madrid.

They will be linked with every top, top player this summer - they always are - but they will need to get rid of some top earners before they can buy. Their defence needs a complete overhaul before they start looking at their attack.

Fergusson always went that way. Make sure you can hurt teams first and have a defensive structure that mitigates the weaknesses elsewhere.

I think they will aim for a similar level to upheaval as we do.

Agree with you that Bale will stay in Spain this summer.

Not outstanding but not awful either for a guy settling into a new league and a new country. Of course for the money spent on him you would be expecting a better and more immediate return, but after all the talk about how awful he has been in the media I was expecting his goal/assist return to be worse than what it is.

What did catch my eye is that if his goals and assists were removed, then the Mancs would have had 13 less points this season
he had a huge contribution at the start of the season. 3 goals and 12 assists according to Fantasy Football.

I think they've got a LOT of work to do to be challenging next season.

They've had a season out of Europe and were out of both cups quite early (Sound familiar?)

They also spent over £150m in the summer yet really they've only just scraped a CL place.

Their defence needs a total overhaul, they'll need to replace De Gea (no mean feat) and they'll need to find a striker who can score consistenly but also stay fit.

That's a massive task for one summer.

Be interesting to see how a manager like LVG spends the money now he's got his feet under the table proper, and has had a season in the Prem to mull over.

I really hope Holland don't have a clutch of young stars just about to step up into top players, would hate to see them playing 'sexy football'.

I don't think there is any danger of Manchester United playing sexy football under Van Gaal; It's very much percentage football. But I think you're right to be concerned about Van Gaal's influence on Dutch football; You only have to look at Depay.

The only positive of that is that Dutch players can be narky and disruptive. Sign 'em up United!

Properly taking up Ferguson's mantle I see.
