If it's true that he offered to go and the board talked him around presumably they really aren't keen on Mourinho. It seems a very odd situation, presumably van Gaal only offered to resign because he doesn't think he can turn it around or because he doesn't have the support of the fans and/or players, which makes it a very odd decision to talk him into staying. If any of those were the case you would assume that it's only a matter of time before they have to part company, and him offering to resign presumably is a cheaper way for that happening than if they sack him at the end of the season.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved. -

Dennis Law interviewed yesterday:
Q: Would your United team beat the present one?
A: Yeah 1-0 I think
Q: 1-0, Why only so close?
A: Well most of us are in our 70's now

They're probably just sorting out the legal stuff and will come out with the mutual consent line in a few days, and give Giggs the Swansea home game in the New Year.
There's way too much coming out now about Van Gaal having doubts himself, and the views of the Man Utd board too.Comment

No club would sack a manager on the one day in between two games, but I think he'll go after the Chelsea game and they'll get Giggs in. And then it's party time
Bobby Charlton and a few others with power and influence there really don't want Mourinho so I'd be surprised now to see him there. If I ran that cunt of a club I'd be going for Pochettino. It's as if they think Mourinho and Giggs are the only managers in the world. Thanks very much for beingComment

I've mentioned him a few times as an outside bet, but such will be the clamour for a big name, I think they'd rather put Mourinho in charge. No club would sack a manager on the one day in between two games, but I think he'll go after the Chelsea game and they'll get Giggs in. Emery, Conte, and even Blanc could be options for them. I think Pochettino would do well to stay at Spurs and develop the side for a few more seasons.Comment

Think they probably view someobe like Pochettino as still lacking that 'status' required for them. Whether that's pulling power with players, CL level, figurehead etc.......

Not in any way suggesting that Giggs has what's required either, but its probably the only way which Mourinho would be considered, even with the obvious internal opposition to such a move........plus he's available, which doesn't happen often.
God bless VanGaal though. Any more of this and they'll be burying Bobby early."I will make the boys feel your support"

Yeah I think after the Moyes experiment they will be very hesitant to put anything other than a big name in charge. It's a very precarious time for Manchester United.Comment

My mate's son is an avid LFC obsessive and he works at MUFC's media department. Interviewing players for the TV channel and so forth.
He reckons he could never do the same job for LFC as it would be emotionally impossible.
Instead he's doing his dream job with emotional detachment, which must be quite helpful in getting the job done properly.Oh I don't know.Comment
