Jose Mourinho has become the first manager to spend over £1bn on new signings.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostIf you allowed for inflation, I'd love to see how much Jose has blown over the years as a coach. His method is really not subtle.
He spent big when he arrived at Chelsea, the fees just don't seem big now. He's going to go massive at Utd too.
I hate them more than ever.

He doesn't know any otherway...yes he wins trophies but he has a boring way of playing football and makes enemies everywhere he goes....

Brings a lot more pressure though surely?? If we don't win the league Klopp can rightly say that we were outspent by the likes of City, United and Arsenal.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI'd rather spend a billion on the best players over a lifetime than half of that on unproven youngsters.
Also think there must be some personal satisfaction unearthing 'hidden gems' or developing players.
Mourinho just plays fantasy football...and would only ever go where he can outspend rivals._____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

Maybe, but not winning the league in 25 years makes me think it's a risk worth taking.Originally posted by red g View PostBrings a lot more pressure though surely?? If we don't win the league Klopp can rightly say that we were outspent by the likes of City, United and Arsenal.

We've pissed billions up the wall in that time, literally on misspent youths with nothing to show for it.
We've proved the philosophy is not just flawed, but redundant.Oh I don't know.

I still maintain if we bought better whilst keeping with our philosophy we'd have won a title - Atletico did it in Spain, Dortmund in Germany, Juve buy well in Italy and are dominant because of it.Originally posted by dom9 View PostMaybe, but not winning the league in 25 years makes me think it's a risk worth taking.

Having money doesn't always guarantee success, look at the millions City have blown on utter ****e and 'only' two leagues for it.

Well, there's an element of quality control required to get the equivalent of Dalglish, Barnes, Beardsley et al.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostI still maintain if we bought better whilst keeping with our philosophy we'd have won a title - Atletico did it in Spain, Dortmund in Germany, Juve buy well in Italy and are dominant because of it.

And yes, City have two more titles than us in this time so I'd be happy with that compared to our haul onto the moral high ground.Oh I don't know.

Our scouting must have been much better back then! You'll never get success with all your buys but they could afford expensive punts like Robinho, Mangala, Klingon etc whereas we get one shot at it.
Look, I have no morals I'd be over the moon if the Chinese bought us and we bought Greizemann, Dahoud, Brandt, Van Dyk and lashed huge wages out if it won us the league BUT i stand by my point and say we bought badly for a long time.

But its Billions at loads of clubs, its like saying Liverpool should sign Messi. Its brainless management,Originally posted by dom9 View PostI'd rather spend a billion on the best players over a lifetime than half of that on unproven youngsters.
I prefer watching Klopp coaching develop the likes of Lovren, Lallana than Mourinho discarding Rashford and Martial for the sake of a ready made replacements that cost a couple of hundred million.Modifying post.

not billions......Hence why we have one manager in that list and united, City, Chelsea and Madrid all have a few up there.Originally posted by dom9 View PostMaybe, but not winning the league in 25 years makes me think it's a risk worth taking.

Think that list proves money buys success though and if we had been taken over by zillionares many years ago we probably would have a few league titles by now._____________________________________

Of course we've spent badly. Probably the worst on any metric. Buy the youth policy is such a misguided falacy. And that's my point. Millions squandered on the global youth and their luxurious facilities.Originally posted by Irishnev View Post

Do away with it. Fill the academy with local lads and if they're any good, we might get a Warnock. If we're very lucky, a Carragher. Never again a Gerrard though.Oh I don't know.

It might not work but i quite enjoy watching the youth here and the progress they make, Admittedly we have more tony le t's than gerrards but then its great that the club invest in youth, its good for team spirit
....not for trophies though
