I actually think it's a decent deal. United were reportedly offering around 30mil for Sanchez and that is what they paid for Mhiki, so they wouldn't have let him go for any less. Mhiki will also be after much lower wages than Sanchez so financially it is a good deal. In 6 months time they would have had nothing to show for it, instead they get a player of very good quality in now.
