I was watching some American coverage of the game and in the post match analysis someone was pointing out that there is now a generation of younger soccer fans who have never seen man utd bring anything other than ****houses battling around the top 6. If they need more years for a rebuilding job then that damage to their standing will be even harder to recover from.

It's not often I look at Red Cafe but I'm waiting for someone so though I'd kill 10 minutes looking at the match thread.
I'm still only on the build up, but the trouble is since the last time I looked it's no longer fun. Most of them seem to have developed a sense of realism rather than entitlement and to some extent are accepting of how far they've fallen:
"Why does the score predictor drop down menu only go up to 5?" being one example.
They clearly need to win a few games to raise their hopes a bit before they get cruelly dashed down again otherwise it's just not sufficiently enjoyable.Comment

Ferguson was a huge part of that club since the refs always rolled over for him. But it was his back staff that did plenty of magic. In came Moyes and gutted the entire lot of them. Thats something you cant fix over a few years. They're screwed for a very long time to come.Comment

Made similar mistakes to what Souness did with us when he took over - changed too much too quickly. We never really recovered from that.
Can definitely see parallels with them and us in terms of where we were in the 90's.
Their fans can delude themselves all they want with FA Cup and League Cup wins, just like us at the time- thinking this breeds a winning mentality, but it doesn't.
We've all fallen into that trap thinking big things are just round the corner because we won a couple of League Cups but the big prizes are as far away from them now as they have been for us.
It'll take more than a 'name' manager to recover the position they find themselves in now. They need to change from the ground up because as things stand, the club seems rotten to the core.

Definitely big similarities between the two situations.
I think the fact they have the money constantly rolling in will help them to rebuild though. Liverpool had the double whammy of our decline coinciding with the influx of Premiership money and us failing to capitalize on it.
If, and it's a big if, they sort the club out off the field, they should be able to recover quite quickly in terms of performance. How they will do that though with their ****e owners is the big question.Comment
