It really was corrupt wasn't it. There can't be any other explanation for this. I remember this game, I remember watching it, and it was a disgrace from start to finish. Look at this ffs.

I remember that game also, and mainly it was the amount of times Reyes was fouled. Its unbelievable watching it back. You could argue a solid case for 3 reds for Utd. And a massively dodgy pen (quite well won by Rooney tbf).Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI just don't buy the "they were all terrified of Fergie" line. What did they think he was gonna do, kick their heads in after the match? It's infuriating watching that, but it happened time and time again in his era.
What I think SAF was good at, was the campaign of 'words in the refs ear' over weeks and months. Clearly he had been at the ref in the months up to that game saying that Arsenal were soft and prone to dive. He has the Nevilles visibly reinforcing that point on the pitch. When you have one manager setting the agenda for the entire division in terms of which team dives and what is acceptable then you get games like this. Ferguson was clearly a massive 'influencer' and the way that that club seemed to almost rule football and be seen as bigger than the rest of the division was mind boggling. 'Fergie time' is a genuine term FFS. If thats not dodgy then what is?
Failing that, you'd be looking for large financial transactions heading towards the refs bank account.Modifying post.
