To be fair, Ronaldo is well past his best at nearly 37, and I won’t lose any sleep with United signing him. He won’t win them the league.
    Are we winning?

We all hope it goes wrong for them but they have just signed one of the greatest players of all time. Yes he is 36 but the guy keeps himself in ridiculous condition, he's a freak. I'd love the whole thing to blow up but they've just added 3 first team players this window and it improves their squad no end. Two world class players and one very talented youngster.

City have strengthened an already packed squad, as have Chelsea. Prem is a tough league and squad depth comes into play over he course of the season and allows teams to compete for other silverware without compromise in the prem. Cavani, Rashford, Ronaldo, Sancho, Fernandes, Pogba, Greenwood, there aren't many better attacking options out there in any side and they are going to destroy alot of teams.

Klopps comments about us not having the resources seem to be ones of mild frustration, he's never going to come out and say it though. We needed to add quality to our squad. Konate was a good addition at the back but relying on talented kids like Elliot and Jones and banking on Keita, Ox, Hendo, Fab and Thiago is stay fit is a risky game imo. We'll see over the course of the season if not replacing an ever present like Gini and not adding another attacking option will cost us.

Our first 11 is brilliant but we will need some luck with injuries if we want to win the league. We will be there and there abouts no doubt, just a pity we could not have added another one or two quality signings.

Laughable. We won't win the league as our record breaking team are 'getting on' or past it, now they are in their mid to late 20's. United sign a 36 year old in a position they don't need and they are now league winners.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Klopp is not frustrated at all, I’m having a totally different feeling when I watch him. He seems completely relaxed and fired up with the task at hand. We’ve improved a title winning team by adding Konate, Jota, Thiago and which was hit by freak injuries last year, plus we have some of the best young players in England in Elliot, Jones and Gordon and still have other very talented fringe players.

As for the league, I think it’s between us, Chelsea and City. United are strong but are not stronger by signing Ronaldo, they needed to improve in other areas, not upfront, so not arsed too much by them at the moment. That might change later in the season.

I wouldn't say the team is relying on Jones and Elliot though. They're in it because they've been deemed good enough and neither is a nailed on starter.

When managing young talent, you have to make space for them and I genuinely think that is also why they haven't felt the need to get midfielder so much and a factor in why they ultimately let gini go.

United signing Ronaldo doesn't bother me. They had a good enough squad to win the league before they did and he doesn't strengthen their weaknesses.

You can have Ronaldo all day but if you still have to have Fred back there in the centre of the park, then you can be got at. Shaw and Maguire too.

It'll be interesting, because Ronaldo's arrival may indirectly push them to play Pogba deeper at the base of midfield rather than higher up on the left and he's a liability back there because he's not got the discipline or right decision making for it.

Our midfielders are fine, the odds that they all got I jured at once are slim and we have 3 forwards who can play as advanced midfielders if anything gets desperate. Jota, Firmino, Minamino.

In klopps system, they're there to, press, break up counters and move the ball on quick as possible to a fullback or a forward, not to bomb on and score goals.

Alison, Trent, Robbo, VVD, Fabinho, Mane, Salah. Those are the world class players in the squad and those are the ones that if they stay fit most of the season, we're in for a real shot.

I seriously dont understand most of you. How is it confusing to understand why they signed him? Look back in the past and UTD have a tendancy to sign older players who are good, generally in the front. They get their goals and performances while still building up youth and giving them a chance to improve instead of saying yeah they are good enough and throwing them in. They always have a support there. He also brings a huge confidence boost with him that will generate right through the team because hes one of the best players in the world currently. Plus he can win free kicks without trying and is still very good at taking them. Thats Ronaldo. And lets not forget his knowledge of the game, fair chance he'll become a manager down the line. Most likely managing UTD if he does well. Add in penalties, free kick goals, and the odd one here and there, I cant see him scoring less than 15 goals this season. He loves the club so his performance will lift up.

My only hope is he gets injured early on. But even the most thuggish teams roll over for them. Meanwhile we get two footed by the evertons of the league without a problem. Sancho, Varane, and Ronaldo for 130mill in 1 window. Ole is doing his job well.

I'm close to putting you on ignore as you nearly have me convinced I'm not sure about the free kicks though - does he still score a lot of them?

I'd have been more concerned if he'd got Lukaku and Sanchez playing well, like a decent manager might.

Replacing them with two geriatric cf's and turning Martial to **** doesn't scream managerial masterclass to me.

I'm hoping that they don't get rid of Pogba the more giant egos the better He is a good player but in order to get him on the pitch someone else has to miss out. Probably a Martial or Rashford so their numbers will drop, he might win them a few more freekick and pens so Fernandes' numbers will drop a bit too. He will improve them but the talk of him adding 20 goals to their PL numbers is BS as most of them will come at the expense of other players and hopefully the rest will be in games that they would have won comfortably anyway. If they were getting him 5 or so years back when he was at his peak I would be more concerned. My biggest concern is that some of their youngsters will gain alot from working alongside him in training

Talking positively about Utd on here is like trying to reason with a flat earther.

How much would it cost us, or anyone else for that matter, to bring in a 20 goal a season player? Probably more than the Ronaldo deal, before wages...

I'm still hoping that the pace of the game will be too much for him now, but I doubt it.

Still, they'll never win anything with OGS in charge so there's nothing to worry about ....

:hamdshake: Financially it looks a good deal, I've seen the transfer fee being quoted as low as £12m no idea if it's true or not. Obviously wages will be more like £25m a year, if he can be at a similar level to what he has shown in his career so far he will be a good signing at that price. Obviously the question is the level he will be at is the PL too tough now given his age to reproduce that form.

The thing about the 20 goals or whatever people are talking about is at whose expense do some of them come? I don't think that they were obviously missing a striker last year, they had a number of players who were quite prolific in front of goal, it's not like they were missing chance after chance and you look at them and say if only they had a goal scorer... The questions are if you took one of their existing forwards out and put him in would they be better? I think the answer is yes. But then you say by how much? And personally I don't think the improvement is as much as some suggest...

He's not that good though. He just takes loads of them.

"Between 2009 and 2018, the Portuguese star scored 33 free-kick goals in 444 attempts for Los Blancos – which equates to a conversion record of 7.3%.

For Juventus, his record of one goal from 72 attempts equates to a 1.4% conversion rate.

According to The Athletic, the rolling average conversion rate for free-kick takers in the English Premier League is 9.2%."
