Can people stop ****posting about transfers being recouped by ****ing shirt sales. Unless they have a unique licencing deal which United do not it simply doesn't happen.

You mean all the knock off shirts produced and sold in Thailand don't contribute to United's coffers?

This may have something to do with the Ronaldo deal.

On the back of that, the Ronaldo deal at £12m will undoubtedly see an upturn in shirt sales and keep Adidas happy.

Reading between the lines in that article the drop in shirt sales 100k fewer than the previous year saw Adidas pay man utd £200k less, now it doesn't say that the drop in sales and revenue are directly linked that suggests they get ~£2 a shirt. The suggestion is that they sell less than 2 million shirts a year. In order to cover the £12m transfer fee they would need to sell 6million shirts more than normal, seems unlikely to me...

The numbers will probably make Adidas happier but I don't see it coming close to covering the transfer fee from a Man Utd perspective.

Uniteds most likely income boost will be people in the club shop paying for Ronaldo on the back.

And the life-size cardboard cutouts if any of those ******s from the Wolves game at the weekend are about.

To be fair, they'll be unique purchases, as I couldn't imagine Maguire ones are too popular.

I wonder if they will be selling any copies of this

I’d have sold it to him for half a million

The myth that shirt sales can pay for a player’s transfer is usually wrong in most cases, but with Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford it looks set to be the case.

In just the first 12 hours of his squad number being announced by Manchester United, Ronaldo No.7 shirts racked up £32.5million in sales across the multiple platforms it was available, according to website lovethesales.com

With how the deal with kit sponsors was worked out, United have gained 10 per cent of the proceeds, which stacks up to around a quarter of the fee for Ronaldo

                        Still nope then.

I’d argue you need to add the agent fee to the £12m too

I don't think anyone said it would pay for him completely.

I think we need to factor in the fact that he's a dick too, which you can't really put a price on

I hope you're all ready for a drastic change in the league now that Ronaldo is here. UTD is already th darling of the FA and now that the greatest player in history has 'come home', they're going to try and make sure this swan song season becomes a fairy tale PL title. If you thought sky commentators were bad before, it'll go through the roof. I expect taylor to faint multiple times during a UTD match.

The refs will be a bigger problem........they'll enjoy being part of the 'Ronaldo Roadshow'.....similar to the ref in the recent Portual-Ireland match.
Every match he features in, he will benefit from from a different ruleset than everyone else.
