Yeah I don't really get where the idea he is close to getting sacked comes from, they just gave him a new contract and they brought Ronaldo back, they are 1 point off the top of the league

He was under pressure last night for sure. You could sense it in the crowd and it was all the chat within the pundits.

A draw would have been preferable, but there is no doubt there is massive expectation on him delivering a trophy. Klopp is the master at handling and defusing that sort of heat. Solskjaer is not, he has pretty much said he expects to be in the mix.

I mean adding Ronaldo will obviously build the expectation. I could see them getting rid if they don't qualify for the CL next year. If they make the top 4 but are miles off the title they may consider his position, but until that is resolved (or they are so far off it's not possible or at least very unlikely) I would say he's fine.

I didn't really see the game last night or the fans reaction to him, but I imagine most of it was frustration at a result/performance that the fans feel should have been better rather than a strong desire to get rid of him.

If he'd lost to Young Boys, then home to Villa and then Villarreal inside a week, then he'd definitely be under pressure. He'd then be up against a far superior manager this weekend and could easily lose again and have 4 on the bounce going into the IB.

The knives would then be getting sharpened over the IB and criticism coming from all angles. Facing Leicester away, then a CL make or break against Atalanta before facing us, Spurs and City as well as Atalanta again.

If he lost last night and dropped points against Everton, I think he'd have been gone by Christmas. Maybe even after that run I highlighted above.

            But he didn't.

Hypothetical, but if a manager that already has a lot of question marks over him loses to a Liverpool legend, Liverpool themselves, City and gets knocked out of CL in the space of a few weeks, how many fans are going to stay loyal?

I think he gets the season whatever, it would have to go really badly for that not to happen, thats why them getting a result of sorts last night was important.

The thing that supporters and those on the outside are starting to realise is that stacking your team with attacking talent is not the only thing required to build a winning team. They dont have a formation that suits everyone, and with Ronaldo, a talented young player is going to miss out. They did have some defensive issues last night with injuries and suspensions, but a better team would have destroyed them. The fact that they looked so vulnerable must be a massive concern.

It is going to be an interesting season for them, the worry though is that they do have enough talent within the rans for a real manager to come in and get them sorted. As things stand Sancho look bereft of confidence and marginalised and the entire team play through Fernandes and Ronaldo.

I am not sure he gets the season to be honest.

He didn't qualify from the group of the CL last season. If that were to happen again this year, then there will be serious questions. Is a manager that has had endless resources that can't get out of 2 easy enough groups ever going to realistically win the trophy?? I think we all know the answer already

They have a tough run in the league coming up. But to be honest, there might actually do well in those games. 10 men behind the ball and try to hit teams on the break. It has worked for them in recent years but it's been the lesser teams that have hit them.

However, looking at how they are playing, if they don't snap out of it soon, then some team is going to to clinical as **** and put 4, 5, 6 goals past them. If that was us or Man City - and they also dropped points against Atalanta and their CL progress is in doubt, then I reckon he could get the bullet.

They should have sacked him a year ago when Tuchel was available. People like Conte and Zidane will be mentioned soon......

I would happily manage the mancs.

Must get a cv done up with all my footy experience from Fifa98 right up to Fifa21 and soon to be Fifa22 experience. Some Football Manager experience there too. So I am probably as tactically aware as Ole at the very least.

Give me two years in charge and I would have them challenging for the Championship before the end of my second year.

That is the EFL Championship before anyone asks.

While I would be happy for you to have that job, I fear they would sack you long before they were relegated

They have good players and have improved (more consistent) under Solskjaer. They're defensively strong and they are winning more games (last year - 2nd place in the Prem, Europa finalists, FA Cup Quarter-finals, EFL Cup Semi-finals... I had to check Wiki). It's enough to give Utd fans hope and keeps him in a job.

However; whenever I watch Utd play (over the last couple of years), I'm always surprised at how poor they are. The big money names are there, but the football is dull. Really dull. It doesn't help that the media (including the BBC) are sometimes guilty of exaggerating Utd's performances (whenever they win a run of games).

As Gary Neville has said they rely on moments. Sporadic individual brilliance. They don't really have a pattern of play or a defined football philosophy.

The problem, for them, is that you cant always rely on magic individual moments, it's not sustainable long term.

As we've discussed, where they are at right now is the perfect of balance of doing well enough to keep hapless Ole in a job and not doing so well that it actually worries us.

watching them play 'well' (e.g. against Leeds this season) and watching us play well (take your pick) is like night and day.

Nah, I would instigate a couple mass brawls during my first few games in charge and get the sort of points deductions that would guarantee relegation. I would publically blame Klopp and Liverpool FC in general for havinfg snuck people in to cause the brawls.

Then I would bleat on to Sky for months about "The United way" and how the team and I are still giving our all for the fans. I would throw in stuff like "for the good of the game" and "the magic of Old Trafford"

The Manc fans would be onboard and that would get me my season in the Championship where I would have them challenge for the title down there but fail to win it, and then fail to get through the play offs.

Then as the cameras sweep around Old Trafford on that final day of the season, I would face a camera, rip open my shirt Superman style to reveal a Liverpool top on underneath and do a big Kloop style "BOOM" for the viewers. Then I would hold up six fingers, nut Gary Neville and stroll out of the ground.
