Always remember that unsubstantiated rumour/theory that when Rafa took over and met with Owen, he asked him about his intentions around renewing his contract.
Owen paid lip service to him with the same crap he'd been spinning to the media about how it 'wasn't the right time to talk about that and how he looked forward to coming to an agreement' blah blah.......... little realising that Rafa, being at the forefront of continental football, knew that his agent was actively seeking options in Spain at the express wishes of the git."I will make the boys feel your support"

I was just about to type the same thing, I read that Rafa whilst at Valencia had received a circular hawking Owen's ass around Europe, apparently from his Agent. Rafa showed the letter to Owen who apparently denied knowledge of it. I still hoped for his sake that his career would get back on track at newcastle, but joining United was betrayal of my youthful innocence and then with twitter allowing you to see snippets of somebodys personality, i hated him but ever since he joined stoke i have felt nothing but pity for him, obviously he has done fabulously materialistically but Owen could have been one of the great strikers, most probably the best one in english history. his game was somewhat limited but his talent was still rare and as with any football player whoever they play for, its a shame to see their career curtailed by injury.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

Not in writing though. That leaves a solid paper trail ad could cause issues further down the line. Didi was talking rubbish again on Twitter last night. Seems to have lost it a bit after his spat with Barton. I don't hate Owen at all. Hamann was saying 'you can't deny a player a chance to play for Madrid'. No one really had a problem with that. The issue was he was stringing the club and fans along saying he was looking to sign a deal then left with a few days of the window to go.
Like Tony Barrett said to Didi 'We got £8m for a player who we should have got £28m for'. Didi still didn't have an issue with it. I'm sorry but we are LFC, a big club. Owen did pretty much the same as what McManaman did to us but Macca left on a free. Scandalous really. Now that he has retired, I won't praise the guy or anything. Scammed us out of a load of money at a time when Rafa generally probably wouldn't have wasted it on pap he bought later in his reignComment
