I watched him in the youth cup run were he first stood out and he was some striker then and was brilliant for us even though he turned into a prick which is a shame really as are there any fans of a club who will remember him fondly??
that day against arsenal in the fa cup was one of my greatest as a red and the scenes in the end when the winner went in will long be remembered

i remember him scoring a goal for england in the victory shield (think thats under 16s is it?) it was possibly against scotland - scotland had just equalised in the last minute....

I'd have preferred him to leave for a fee that was closer matched to his value. The club and he to an extent carry the can for that. The club for allowing him to run his contract down and him for saying he was going to stay and sign but looking for a new club at the same time. That's the issue for me. Every player has the right to move. When you're being paid £60k a week or whatever he was at the time, don't blatantly lie to the club and fans when you've got no intention of signing on and staying. Especially as they'd looked after him since he was a kid.

Gerrard is something else. The man is an absolute legend. Yeah he flirted with Chelsea but every game he has played he has always given 110%. Love the guy

There are plenty of players who have done the same time. but its still a cunts trick. He could easily have signed an extension for us earlier and still signed for Madrid, But then of course they wouldnt have paid the 30odd million which was probably his true market value.

Especially considering England dont exactly have a regular supply of strikers near his quality. Also, how did a ballon d'or winning player ended up on a bench for so long!? Nuts! Just to add onto my last few posts on it, he had a chance to come back the season after didn't he. Rafa told him to hold out for a move, but he was too concerned about his England chances. Not in the slightest, I used to worship the cunt - he's only a few years older than me so he's one of the Liverpool players (along with Carragher and Gerrard) that I feel I've "grown up" alongside and watching them. I felt utterly betrayed when he left, yes he was a great player for us but that doesn't change a number of things:

• He wanted a big European manager and, when we got one, he ****ed off.
• He lied to us and prevented himself from being sold so he could further line his own pockets with a lovely golden handshake from Real.
• He signed for United.
• He has blamed Liverpool for overplaying him, clearly indicating that he's a robot who has absolutely no control over his entire career.
