Wasn't always the case in my experience mate - but as I said it's been years since I've had any issues
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Racism in any form is deplorable, and you'd like to think we have moved on.

No matter who they claim to represent that incident is just embarrassing. I can't imagine the mentality of people who visit another country and think it is acceptable to act in this way.

      Brits abroad eh.

this may not be the best place for this but on the subject of racism. I get the feeling that people are more openly racist than they used to be.

Really? I was thinking the difference between 20 years ago and now is immense.

sorry i was comparing it to the last 10 years. Maybe i listen more than i did but i do think i here more comments about people of different race religion or country of origin than i used to.

at some point ot was all sort of acceptable in britian (you know what i mean) great strides were taken it just feels we are going a bit backwards to me.

            i could be wrong though.

I dunno, in the Chelsea thread could be about as appropriate as anywhere

Yeah? I guess it totally depends on where you are etc.

I remember as a kid in Scotland, it was common to refer to hear reference to 'Pakis' etc. that ignorance still exists to an extent (particularly in some of the elderly), but things have definitely improved, and at least awareness exists.

I don't think we have finished the journey to racial equality by any means, but I suspect there is a generation coming through that do not view racism in the same way, and perhaps do not have the same awareness that it existed and therefor view things with more equality.

That said a Rugby team from Stirling Uni were recently caught 'blacked up' for a night out...and I also saw Krispy Creme Donuts had to abandon their recent Krispy Kreme Klub initiative. Which they were incredibly branding as 'KKK Wednesdays' so ignorance still at times prevails.

I think you are right, you definitely notice it more when it happens now. Still a way to go but much better than when I was a kid. You may not have been racist yourself back then but you weren't that surprised when other people were. Now I find it quite shocking. My school had the protocols of the elders of zion in the library, and not for the purposes of history class.

I was both racist and homophobic growing up. You don't really get much choice when you grow up in it.

Just hopefully when you get old enough to develop a mind of your own you learn the error of your ways.

I think back in my home town it's still very much the average mindset

I think it gets reported more often now, it's something that was common place back when I was a kid. It was often so wide spread that it didn't seem out of place.

The major difference now is, with the advent of social media, the moron's have a voice to shout their ignorant views from the rooftops.

i think i hear more people being openly racist. i mean out and about not just idiots on social media.

it might be having moved around the country and there being different levels in different parts. also differing economic times or as someone said there is less so you notice the instances more.

Chelsea have appealed for witnesses regarding the incident in Paris on Tuesday when fans of the club appeared to prevent a black man from boarding a train.
The club released a statement that said: "To help us with our investigations and to identify those persons involved, we ask those who were present to forward their observations, in the strictest confidence, to [email protected]
"Such behaviour is abhorrent and has no place in football or society. We will support any criminal action against those involved in such behaviour, and should evidence point to the involvement of Chelsea season ticket holders or members the club, will take the strongest possible action against them, including banning orders."
