when he makes the pass the chelsea player isnt there, he comes in from the side and puts his leg in to try and get the ball before the pass is made. the burnley player makes the pass and now the ball isnt there as the chelsea players leg swing in front of the burnley players foot.

the burnley player is just kicking the ball, and as the ball leaves the end of his foot the chelsea players leg then comes into the line of the swing of the foot.
dyche is spot on, the momentum of the lick sees the burnley players foot continue along the same swing direction [he refers to it as a pendulum action] and the chelsea player then puts his leg into the line of swing of the burnley player.

Yes its a natural movement of the foot through the ball but I do think Barnes leaves it in there to make contact or even to protect himself

Maybe I am being a little ingenuous by saying he meant it, maybe it was more instinctual than premeditated but Barnes knew what he had done when he walked away

If it had been an accident he (Barnes) would have shown a different reaction

When i think of some of the stuff that passes the media and pundits by, shocking tackles with real intent.

There's a gif on Est somewhere of Costa absolutely trying to head butt a player marking him from behind, Costa thrusts his head backwards towards the players face.

That for me is far worse than this, full of intent, not a ball in sight.
