So the best manager in the world, backed by one of the richest owners in the world are looking devoid of ideas in the league and can't beat a mediocre team at home in the champions league.
I do wonder if Mourinho just got lucky at Porto, he plays dire football and failed miserably in Spain plus he always gets an open cheque book to sign who he wants at every club he's at. Is he really that good at manager or is he purely a propaganda machine in overdrive?

I think he's a good manager who got a bit of luck at Porto, they had a very good side plus Monaco in the final and since then as you say he's inherited the Chelsea squad + unlimited funds and the same at Madrid, I will say Inter was a great achievement. However at Inter he had an aging squad and added older players to it, he was only ever going in there to make an impact and get out before it got too late.
He has made some very questionable signings over the years as well, personally I'd take Rafa building a squad with money over Jose, we stopped growing when the American clowns stopped the money completely. Chelsea fans will watch Napoli now and feel very stupid I think.
Porto should have been knocked out against the Scum (1/4's I think) was watching with an MU supporting mate on a 14" tv that was relying on the ariel attached to it to pick up a signal and we could see the equaliser was offside. God knows what the ref was/lino were up to that day.
I know what you're getting at but I listened to him talking and I don't agree with you. Yes, it was self-serving and, given the average age of the players, shouldn't be seen as a valid excuse. But I don't think he's wrong to say that they lack leadership. And how it might work is to get the players to trust in him, that he has the mental strength and can help them develop it.
I thought his press conference was an interesting mix of charm, apparent and disarming honesty, calm disappointment and leadership. A muted but clear call-to-arms.
It's only when you look at what he omitted to say that it becomes clear there's also a lot of self-serving horse****. I don't suppose many of his players will notice.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
Hardly good management from Jose in the post-match interview last night:
"The team does not have the maturity or personality to face difficult moments. When the first negative moment arrives, they shake"
He's probably right though, except it would help if Mata was on the pitch, he's a winner and in that age group that has experience without being too old or young.
Hazard is a talent but they've expected him to come in and be the finished article and its too much too soon for him, but I suppose that comes with the price.
For me they lack a quality CM, a striker (could have been Lukaku) and a different option in the attacking 3rd, maybe Di Maria.
They need a proper holding midfielder and not a waste of space like Mikel who is seemingly impossible to shift. They also could arguably need two new strikers in place of Eto'o and Torress. Carra was right in that Chelsea arguably look like they are playing with 10 men as they have no centre forward.
They also have an issue that Hazard looks utterly useless at the moment and he's the only wide man with quality they have IMO. The rest are unproven or don't fit that exact position. Ironically Moses and Sturridge would massively improve them at the moment
