Best finisher ever in the PL?

Right, I'm having an argument with a couple of friends on Facebook about who was the best finisher ever in the PL

It all started because of someone posting something about Owen and then someone saying after Henry he was probably the best PL finisher ever.

I think Shearer was a better finisher than Owen and also I believe that Torres in his prime was a better finisher than Owen too.

What do you set of footballing Geniuses think?
The times they are a changin'.

No RVN on that list? As much as I hated the ******* for being a manc he was as clinical as it gets.

Shearer and then RvN, the rest are a distant third, in my opinion.

In terms of a pure finisher, Solskjaer has to be right up there. Not the greatest striker, but his shots were always on target.

                Otherwise; Fowler and van Nistlerooy.

Then there's the rest like Philips, Henry, Shearer, Owen etc

Seriously though, it may be my allegiance talking but there can be no other than Robert Bernard Fowler.

Shearer, Fowler and Henry. And maybe van Nistlerooy. Anyone saying Owen needs their head (and eyes) examining, and then they need to look at his goals record. Very good, but even at his best it wasn't near that of the 4 I mentioned above at their respective peaks.

Torres, for me, didn't do it for long enough. He was superlative for a couple of seasons, and 65 in 102 is a cracking scoring rate, but ultimately its not enough to put him quite in the same league as the others.

Shearer scored a pretty incredible 112 in 138 for Blackburn, then went on to put away another bucketload for Newcastle.

Henry - 174 in 254 for Arsenal. Stunning

Fowler - 116 in his first 3 1/2 professional seasons. Imperious. Went downhill a bit after that of course but still.

Van Nist - 95 in 150 for ManU

Of those 4 personally I think the only one Torres' record can really hold a candle to is van Nistlerooy's. If he'd done it for longer, or it had worked for him at Chelsea then certainly, but for me he just didn't quite maintain it. Totally subjective judgement though of course.

I may be biased, but as a pure and natural finisher, Fowler is the best I've seen in the Premier League.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
