Fowler, Shearer and Van Nistelrooy are the top 3 in my opinion. Difficult to seperate them. But I think for shear finishing ability, Fowler edges it.

For me Alan Shearer - haven't even read through the thread yet to see what others said but he was the standout striker - consistent, two footed, great in the air and scored everything - screamers, flicks, in of his arse, goal mouth scrambles 2 yards outi own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

I mentioned him earlierOriginally posted by dom9 View PostNo mention of Les Ferdinand, but he was up there in the PL scoring charts throughout the 90s. Not he best, but the next tier down probably.
Definitely underrated. Such a good goalscoring record, and for ****ing QPR. Still did it into his 30s as well.Like blood on iron

I think Owen, Shearer and Henry were all goalscorers for for years, where as Torres' prime only lasted for what.. 2 seaosns? if that? So i would cancel him out straight away!Originally posted by Gibbo9 View PostRight, I'm having an argument with a couple of friends on Facebook about who was the best finisher ever in the PL
It all started because of someone posting something about Owen and then someone saying after Henry he was probably the best PL finisher ever.
I think Shearer was a better finisher than Owen and also I believe that Torres in his prime was a better finisher than Owen too.
What do you set of footballing Geniuses think?
I would go for Owen for the most natural finisher, he didn't miss many chances!
but it's a tough one!jc - after the live score and the best Soccer Blog online

Don't get me wrong, I'm Owen's biggest critic and I was one of those who had a go at him regularly even when he was performing, but you have to admit that the reason he never reached 20/season had to be due more to his injury record than an inability to score 20 goals. He regularly reached 18 and 19 league goals which isn't a massive difference. If you're a [cricket] batsmen, other than the milestone is 99 any different to 100?Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI genuinely didn't.
Just threw it out there. For someone supposed to be one of the great finishers, never scoring 20 league goals in a season is a major flaw in his case.
He was reliable in scoring positions, some of his finishing for Real Madrid was spectacular.
Originally posted by dom9 View PostAndy Cole doesn't deserve a mention in this or any other thread, unless it's about how many chance he needs before he scores a goal. He should have been on 60 goals a season at United, but he regularly missed chance after chance, and still ended up getting well over 20 goals most seasons.
Cole was a great striker and got himself into fantastic scoring positions but his finishing was really bad a lot of the time. He missed a lot of very easy scoring opportunities. The fact he was such a good player meant he scored all those goals, not because he was a great pure finisher.
I think many people are confusing who are the better/best strikers in the league, or who the best finishers are. I.e. I don't think Solskjaer was anywhere near the best strikers in the league, but if there was a chance, you'd definitely want him on the end of it.

Some very good shouts in this thread, People that I had forgotten about like Les Ferdinand, very underrated as a striker.
That's why I mentioned him in his prime, Torres was fantastic, every time he touched the ball around the area I expected him to score, I would love to see his conversion rate.Originally posted by lfcred View PostI think Owen, Shearer and Henry were all goalscorers for for years, where as Torres' prime only lasted for what.. 2 seaosns? if that? I think Henry and Shearer where both streets ahead of everyone else.
Van Nistelrooy was also up there for me.The times they are a changin'.
