GK is such a specialised area I think clubs should still have the ability to loan them out. Plus GKs tend to mature later and play on into their late-30s.

Cant see why this is an issue to be honest! if a player is unwanted but is on a contract then let him play else where! a club taking a player on loan know that they wont be able to play them against there parent club when they sign him! and the loan club have the benefit of having a great player playing for them for free and often on reduced wages like Adebayor!

You could argue that it distorts competition though...

Relatively speaking Man City have an easier game against Tottenham than their title challengers because they've lent Spurs a £250k per week international striker.

The main reason is that it gives the loaning team an unfair advantage over other teams in the league, I.e loaned player plays against their rivals but not them, thus 'unleveling' the playing field.

And in that example, it allows City to pick and choose which other teams will benefit from their 'charity' and which won't.

also... if a club decide to buy up all the available hot prospects they could then farm them out and have sleepers in other teams. could be very dodgy...
at least if they went to lower league clubs then no one could smell anyfin fishy.

its also vital that the development of youth players isnt stifled by a club having lots of hot kids [calm down, Arsene] and them not getting a game and not gaining match experience.

A special case is made for goalkeepers in the transfer rules, you can loan a goalkeeper outside of the transfer window. I think that was the case when we got Paul Jones. I'd keep that rule personally as GKs are more specialist positions, you can make do with switching outfield players around, if you don't have a keeper you're in trouble.

I like the idea of GK's being excluded. You really need emergency keepers as you can't simply throw in any old player like playing a CB at LB or whatever.

Theory is that, GKs are specialised. But outfield players could do a job in all of there outfield positions. You can change around your team to suit. But if your 2 GKs are out injured, you might want to loan in another GK to cover for them.
