There's also talk that the lower division clubs don't want rangers in their division cos it makes it harder for them so talk is the may just go into division 1.
Given that the league goes into a split it would be only a max of 2 times for 5 teams.
There is also an argument that a more competitive league would also result in increased gate revenue for the other clubs, not that that should be a deciding factor. They should be punished because they have cheated, and not let off because the other clubs would lose out.
Like you say, I dont think other clubs would lose out as much as Rangers want them to think. Imagine a few clubs at the tail end of the season who still have something to play for.
Am I right in thinking, that apart from the Old firm, the league is quite competitive from 3rd to 12th?

Yeah, I don't think that the rest of the league have never really had a huge problem with the Old Firms plans to leave the league.
The problem the SPL will have is the potential loss of tv revenue, Sky will renegotiate the deal and I'd imagine offer far, far less than they currently pay to show the SPL games on their channels.
I don't see how Sky can renegotiate the deal though. It would be no difference in theory from one of the old firm clubs getting relegated through performance so unless there is an 'Old Firm Relegation' clause in the current deal would they have grounds?
And if they did could the SPL go after them for breach of contract? It's not like NTL or Setanta where they went bust.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.
I suppose they could do it on the grounds of the SPL not letting them in. But it seems now that the scenario would be that they are let in, then immediately relegated.
depends on what clauses are in the contract really, I'd be shocked if Sky didn't have some sort of renegotation or break clause included based on the SPL's performance with viewing figures etc...

Quite possibly, but that would be after the event, surely. Wouldn't happen this summer, and rangers would probably be back next year anyway.

It would be a scandal on top of a scandal if Rangers were allowed into the SPL because of SKY. A commercial deal should be nothing to do with a breach of regulations.
Romanov again Buzzo - its a brilliant statement. Until the last line...
HEARTS have become the first SPL club to openly admit they will vote 'no' to allowing a newco Rangers into the SPL.
The Tynecastle club's chairman Vladimir Romanov issued a strongly worded statement today revealing they will vote against any plans to give the Ibrox club immediate access to the Scottish top-flight.
This news will come as a blow to the owner of Rangers, Charles Green, who had been hopeful a deal could be struck that would see the Govan club avoid demotion to the SFL.
Romanov said: "The opinion of Heart of Midlothian FC in regards to the current situation of Scottish football is clear and robust.
"The football mafia represented by former owners of Rangers FC and Rupert Murdoch's media are to blame for some of the worst problems to hit Scottish football and must not be allowed back in under any circumstances.
"As regards the club itself, we can only express our deepest condolences to its supporters, who have been lied to for so many years.
"It had to happen sooner or later. Victories were achieved not by sporting merits, but through slander, conspiracies amongst players and their poaching via third parties, unfair pressuring of referees, who in themselves are as valuable to the fabric of football as the football stars themselves.
"All of this brought hollow victories and destroyed football. We can also mention the attempts to eliminate Hearts with the help of the tax petitions, through false accusations and threats to revoke the club license. There is a saying about digging a grave for someone: you get it for yourself …
"Without these people football will become cleaner and stronger. Without Murdoch the whole of society will improve, in particular sport and culture.
"Supporters deserve a new beginning and have to accept the fact that their club has to start from the lower league, keeping order in the SPL and without creating unfair competition with other clubs.
"As regards the pitiful state of Scottish football finances, a lot of the blame should be placed at the doors of Murdoch's media. They pay huge sums to English clubs, whilst in Scotland, where football is better supported per capita than anywhere else in Europe and there are more cable or Sky subscribers per capita than in England, clubs receive peanuts for their broadcasting rights.
"At the very least this is discrimination and protectionism for the English football product, which at the same time stunts the development of the game in Scotland, that is regarded as the cradle of football.
"I feel that it is absolutely realistic to create a company that would bring to Scottish clubs at least the same broadcasting income, and even grow it by 50-100% over the next two to three years. This company should be in the hands of Scottish clubs and work with those who want to earn money the honest way, instead of conducting business the Murdoch way.
"They have lived beyond law and all morals, and should now be declared beyond the pale. A society that allows the destruction of integrity in sport, which is a crucial part of Scottish culture, is destroying itself - and all for the benefit of a media aborigine."
Romanov certianly isn't afraid of saying it how it is. Genius.
I have a feeling that in a more moderate way a lot of this will be the fellings of the majority of the SPL.
Rangers owner Charles Green is putting together an *emergency plan to move the Glasgow giants to ENGLAND as he battles for the club’s future.
Green has bought the Ibrox outfit and is taking them out of administration, hoping to persuade Ally McCoist to stay on as manager.
But there are huge doubts about whether they will play in the SPL next season, or be forced to drop to the fourth level.
And insiders close to the Yorkshireman’s camp reveal that Green is lining up an *astonishing bid to buy a lower-division club in England and take their place in the Football League instead. link
Surely that can't happen.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
