Well. That didn't work. Despite the fresh influx of Newcastle reserves Rangers were dumped out the cup by the Mighty Raith, at Ibrox in front of a meagre 11,000.

    The self destruction continues.

Banning the local paper always ends well.

Rangers board slap a BAN on the Daily Record as they bar us from Ibrox and Murray Park

UNPOPULAR Light Blues chief executive Derek Llambias tries to stop us getting the big stories. Good luck with that, Del.

THE Daily Record has tonight been BANNED by the Rangers board.

Our paper was this evening sent an email and fax by under-fire chief executive Derek Llambias that told us we are not welcome at Ibrox or Murray Park for matches and press conferences.

The message failed to detail any reasons for the move that has echoes of our sister paper the Chronicle being banned from Newcastle United.

The move comes after our top team – headed by chief football writer Keith Jackson - delivered a series of exclusives and hard-hitting columns which have have called into question the way the club is being run.

Llambias wrote: "Following recent reporting by your journalists in the Daily Record, I am writing to inform you that with immediate effect the Daily Record newspaper will banned from attending all Rangers press conferences and games at Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park."

Despite today's ban, we will continue to write the truth. Fans will still be able to read about their team – despite us not being welcome.

We will continue to report the ongoing crisis on and off the park without fear or favour.

The board face an egm on March 4 where Dave King will attempt to oust the current directors.

Craig Houston, spokesman for Rangers supporters group Sons of Struth, said: “All Rangers supporters should be deeply disturbed that this latest development.

“The Daily Record, perhaps more than any other newspaper, has exposed what has been going on behind the scenes at our club – particularly over the last four years.

“Most notably, they told us about Craig Whyte’s deal with Ticketus and, more recently, the selling of the stadium name to Mike Ashley for £1.

“This morning the Record told us that the EGM might not go ahead in the hotel which the board said had been booked. Now that has proven to be correct.
“As fans, we should thanks the Record for telling us all the things the board would rather have kept secret.”

He continued: “What worries me is that this is a mirror image of what goes on at Newcastle United, where papers are frequently banned from the club.

“That is why Rangers fans should be concerned.

“What we don’t want are selected journalists or selected newspapers operating in a climate where they are threatened with bans for writing something the club disagrees with.

“The thought of a ban is despicable in what is supposed to be a free country with freedom of speech.”

Daily Record editor Murray Foote said: "We're disappointed by this ban but will continue our robust, fair and accurate reporting of Rangers."

It's known as the Daily Rangers so it's about as local as you get.

Every day brings something new with Rangers at the moment. Even the Celtic fans in my office have stopped laughing.

Takes a leap of the imagination to in any way blame a paper for the negative press coming out from Rangers, even if you dumb it down a bit they are a joke right now. I heard on the news that they are holding an EGM in London.

It has had to be rescheduled as the chosen Hotel cancelled the event due to the amount of hoax calls they were receiving regarding the events organisation.

A glasgow team holding an EGM in London smacks of total panic

                  What a farce.

                    Good.

I hate the style of writing in that article. Our local paper is the same, and I detest its taking of the moral stance on behalf of all of us, and its sense of entitlement.

The standard of local journalism in this country is little higher than the shouty tabloids. In fact, many are owned by the Mail Group.

I'm not sure the club had this in mind when implementing the ban though.
                    Oh I don't know.

The Record is a rag spouting exactly the same sensationalist **** ass all the other red tops. That said it is interesting to contemplate what Rangers exactly have in mind in general?

Zero leadership, a failed/failing financial model and boardroom squabbling that is destroying the club.

                              No it's not.

Trinity Mirror & Johnstone Press own great swathes of the regional press in this country.

Ah yes, Trinity Mirror owns Local World. Our local definitely had links to the mail group in the past few years. They must have sold up.
