Nah, just seemed like a funny response.

I think it's more of a shame than anything that he didn't set the last World Cup on fire. It needed not just Messi but quite alot of the superstars to do their bit. Was a **** WC really.

I don't understand why people find it so hard to accept that we're lucky enough to be alive to witness the greatest to ever play the game.

I did wonder. I thought "after all I've just said there he goes and posts that?!"

Agreed it would obviously be the icing on the cake, nothing more. He doesn't need it. CL is a higher level than the World Cup anyway.

The thing about World Cups is that it can take players of their comfort zones. Times differences, altitudes, climate. I think the last World Cup certainly did that. With CL, you're playing half the games at home then the final in one of the worlds best stadiums in Europe.

I agree that he doesn't need to win the WC to prove that he's the best ever but the WC is a different kind of challenge and the thing is that, if there was any player ever that could take on that challenge, I would say it's Messi with his incredible attitude and love for the game. Win it? Maybe. Excel in one? Yeah, surely he has to.

Messi will only be the greatest once he's come and done it in Premiership, until then Ronaldo will always be better...

So we can rule out Pele, Zidane and Maradona as well then? Ridiculous

If either Barca or Madrid were in the PL they'd romp it at the moment IMO. Utter bollocks to say he needs to play here.

We all know that the ultimate test is a cold, wet, winter night in Stoke
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                          Tell that to Arsenal

For me, he doesn't need to win the WC to be considered the greatest ever, there are so many variables there, for the last competiton he had a **** manager for one. Now they seem to be building around him and made him captain so we'll see, 2014 will be interesting at least. But it wont affect my view on him as the greatest ever. You simply can't out-do him.
                          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Zidane was never in the same bracket as Maradona. Or indeed Messi.

I never saw Pele, so i cant personally include him but given what i've heard, he's no doubt a level above Zidane too.

Plays for Real Madrid, rips the football world to shreds, destroys everybody, scores 90 goals a season, most of them brilliant - will people come out with the same ****e then?

Sick of hearing it to be honest.

It's a pointless debate, but nevertheless for me there is no debate, he's the greatest player in my lifetime and surely the greatest ever.

He's got a point, to be fair.

It's a well known fact that Messi would seriously struggle and most likely crumble on a wet Wednesday night at Stoke.
