Teflon coated? He's been in gaol for seven years with neither charge nor trial, which utterly violates any notion of habeas corpus. And that's Teflon coated?
You keep using these words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.
Well verbal abuse is a form of assault (if the victim feels threatened) and their is the harassment act of 1996, along with Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1988 says it is an offence to use abusive, threatening or insulting words language or behaviour with the intention of casuing alarm distress of harrassment. I doubt the case is a simple as made out her or in the media.
I doubt the lad was tried on a single offence.
If we were to jail everyone for 56 days that intentionally insulted someone then we would need 1000's of new prisons.

These were done in the public domain and in this case of a cumulation of offences not a single offence, not just harrasment and abuse, but also racially agrivated abuse too.
I doubt this is just making an example of him, it is most likely that he has been done on numerous offences.

Still think it ridiculous, but whether its for one tweet, 5 or 50 in that half hour that it happened, I dont think it should be an offence. He is threatening anyone, he isnt encouraging anyone to go out and attack black people.
For all the faults with the US justice system such as jailing people for life with no possibility of parole for a crime committted as a 16 year old, at least they are allowed to speak their mind without fear of criminalisation.
Its more of a wider political issue than one chap making racially insensitive and abuse comments on a social network, and a general apathy towards politics in Britain has allowed successive Governments to rigid control so many aspects of our life that we now even need their permission to use certain words.

There is a list of offences he is guilty of, the man got what was coming to him. People like to think they can act how they want on the internet without real repercussions and that should not be the case.
Dunno, but looking at anylist he would have been better at going on the rob from peoples bank accounts or filming them having sex as the same judge thinks they are only worthy of community orders.
