Lambert will not rule out Villa move for Carroll

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert refused to rule out a loan move for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll on Saturday.

Lambert watched his Villa side defeat Burton Albion in a pre-season friendly, thanks to an own goal and a strike from new signing Brett Holman.

Post-match attentions turned to Villa's summer transfer activity, with Lambert linked to Liverpool forward Carroll. Following Grant Holt's decision to pen a new contract at Norwich, it is believed Lambert is still on the lookout for a target man.

Carroll could be available on loan from Liverpool, according to Brendan Rodgers, and Villa are joined by AC Milan and West Ham in their reported interest in the striker. Quizzed on the issue on Saturday, Lambert ruled nothing out.

"If we can get him that'd be great!" Lambert told Sky Sports News. "I've heard people are linked with him. That doesn't surprise me.

"He's a top player and not one I would dismiss."

We can't sell him to ourselves

I don't think many clubs in the premiership outside the top 6 would say no to him on loan.

Take spends, wages, transfer fees etc out of all of the Carroll, Downing situation and just focus on what we bring in and the season ahead..

Why get stressed over stuff you know nothing about..

I'm sure it's not just a case of,

"We paid 20 mill for Downing and now we are selling him for 10, so we lost 10 Mill which could have been spent on......etc etc..

FM Managers happy to play the game here...

I just think it makes for easy conversation if we say we bought Downing for £20m and sold him for (example) £10 therefore losing out on £19,999,990m.

If we say that we bought him for £20m and he's earned £3.1m in a basic salary, £400,00 in bonuses, £500,000 in image rights so we've really lost £23,999,980, it gets a little bit complicated.

I agree with the 'we bought Carroll for £35m so we could have bought Aguero' bollocks, mind.

                        I agree,

it does but it also leaves it wide open for 20 pages of ****e from those that dont really know and prefer to speculate, thus creating quite a few pages of drivel..

Then again, I suppose you could throw that argument against most threads in this forum.... Me included for posting..

Meanwhile, Andy Carroll faces being frozen out at Liverpool if he refuses to accept that he has no part to play in Brendan Rodgers’ vision for the club.

And after recruiting £7million Fabio Borini to play alongside Uruguayan Luiz Suarez, there is no future on *Merseyside for £35million *club-record signing Carroll.

The 23-year-old England international will have the bitter truth explained to him when he meets Rodgers for the first time on July 23.

Carroll, who enjoyed a productive end to last *season after a frustrating time under Dalglish, has been given *extended leave following his inclusion in Roy Hodgson’s England team during Euro 2012.

Liverpool are leaving on a pre-season tour to the United States tomorrow and *Rodgers has already *decided that the style of play he wants to impose on the team leaves no place for Carroll.

Previous investment is a sunk cost, we can't calculate that into future business really.

What's important is the net gain/loss to the squad from the coming deals. I like Carroll but I have my doubts if he can fit in to the new system, but I would at least like to see him get the chance.
