Genuine question; why worry? Why not just wait to see how things pan out rather than judging and worrying from our position of knowing little about what's going on? I really don't understand why many people are investing emotional energy in this stuff.

I still say they will only be bit part players at best

And at £90K per week and £100+K per week for them can we afford to be paying out this amount of cash for bit part players

I dont envy the situation FSG are in

      Its very difficult

        Seems that way mate.

On the whole, we've been pretty terrible in the transfer market over the last couple of years and now it's caught up with us and we're paying the price.

        We're literally paying the price.

I think the sacking of Dalglish and staff and the compensation paid out for Rodgers and staff may have something to do with the amount of money that is available

And not being in the CL for 2 years, at least with a massive job to get there. That has an influence on the wages the club can commit to with certainty for new players.

Lecter I think you would have made an excellent Old Testament Prophet, telling the Israelites that you're worried about the direction they've taken and forseeing disaster down the line.

                  you said we had 60m

so you think the managerial change has cost us a huge percentage of that?

Mate, I'm not 'emotionally worried' it's not going to turn my hair grey or keep me from sleeping at night, I used it more as a figure of speech. I love this club but our transfer activity isn't number one of my list of problems at the minute. I wish it was!

I mean yes we might earn £15 million at a stretch but there is no doubt we will have to pay off a sizeable proportion of his remaining contract

Considering hes on upwards of £75K per week by all accounts then this is over £15.6 million in wages remaining on his contract

Obviously we wont have to pay that much out but in the past we have paid off huge sums of money to get rid of people (Jovanovic for one)

Its apparent the lad doesnt want to leave so I expect negotiations on any particular pay off will be difficult and more than likely expensive
Lets say we can negotiate a £5m saving on wages on his payoff, and we get 15m now, which is probably 7-8m more than we might get next season after using him sparingly. £12m is still a healthy saving is it not?

                          Of course

But I do feel the staff situation over the last couple of years must have cost us a fortune

It may have been a necessary evil (or at least some of it might) but its still cost significant amounts of money to sack Rafa - get Roy & staff - sack Roy & staff - sack Comolli - sack Kenny & staff - get Rodgers & staff

He's our record signing by some distance.

Do you think we'd splash out £35m on him and then put him on similar pay to someone like Spearing?

Huh? So you're saying if we sell a player, we have to buy out his contract? I don't think that's how it works mate.

And why do you say it's apparent the lad doesn't leave? According to reports this morning he's told 'close friends' that he wants out.

I think with Jovanovic it was pretty obvious that he wasn't going to figure and had no resale value, so it was pointless keeping him really. Carroll would fetch a decent price and that's the main differece.

Out of curiosity, what do you think we should do with Carroll then? Keep him?
