As far as i'm aware, always thought deals of that nature were done.

Its pretty much the norm unless a player asks for a transfer

If a player doesnt ask for a transfer he is entitled to compensation on the amount remaining on his contract

Sometimes this will be a pre-agreed amount but generally its based on a proportion of the wages remaining on a contract

Now obviously there might be a situation where a player might waive that (particularly if hes going to a big club on a massive increase of salary) but generally if they are stepping down in wages amount then the selling club will pay compensation

Going further back in time when we sold Emile Heskey we ended up paying 20 or 25% of his wages for the balance of his contract

And yes it does pay to be a journeyman

I think the Carroll sale (if it comes about) will cost us dearly, he clearly feels hes been treated badly and as such I expect him to haggle for as much as possible and equally I expect whoever he ends up at to manipulate us in regards to the fee
Fair enough - I'd honestly never heard of that. I've been trying to find out more online but can't see anything. Any ideas on what I could search for? I'd be interested in reading up on this.

But we wouldn't be 'forcing' him out. Carroll would obviously have to agree to the transfer. The only way we could force him out would be to buy out his contract.

Not trying to be argumentative here, genuinely want to learn about this as it's not something I was aware of, and I'm confused by this right now!

          Doesnt matter

Handing in a transfer request automatically waives the players right for compensation

If a fee is agreed without a transfer request going in then compensation will be considered due and negotiated accordingly

Thats the way of the football world unfortunately

Yet hes ****ing Carroll off without even looking at him

No wonder the lads pissed off
No point in reading too much into that statement. That is a standard statement all new managers make. I am sure Brendan would have done his homework on our players and really does not need to watch them train to know their strengths and weaknesses.

I remember Rafa going on about the importance of having an English core and naming players like Murphy, Gerrard, and Carra and then selling Murphy within a week.

I agree with Lecter that there are a number of players in the squad who may not fit within Rodgers style or English football - Cole, Aquilani, Adam, and maybe Carroll.

I think all of them are on the transfer market and will be sold at the first reasonably bid. I just think Carroll is attracting a lot of interest now. I don't think it is a case of Rodgers preferring one over the other.

Also Graham and Carroll are not similar type of strikers. They look similar in physical structure. But Graham is more mobile, can link up play better and is a better fit in Rodgers style of play. I am not saying Graham is a better striker than Carroll.

              @ Lec

It was pretty obvious we would lose a bucket load of cash on Carroll from the moment we spent £35m on him.

And that is the fault of whoever negotiated that transfer, be it Kenny or commoli.

But that's in the past and it's now about moving forward. If we only sold players we didn't lose cash on we'd be left with a lot of **** players who aren't any good, such as Jovanovic who you mention.

People speak about loaning Carroll to bump up the fee - worked well with Aqulani that one didn't it, lol

The offer to Liverpool over the weekend is nothing more than a bluff. They are declaring their interest in a player they know they have no chance of signing on a temporary basis and who they do not have the money Liverpool are looking for to let him leave for a season.

Newcastle’s move is designed to rock the boat. It is a move designed to stir Carroll’s inner yearning for a homecoming in the hope he sets his heart on it and does his bit to make it happen.link

                    I wasnt arguing about that

I was just saying that people jumping for joy at selling him for £15 million should be aware that in all likelihood the club will not be seeing £15 million coming back into the coffers

There will be compensation payments etc.. that can and will dramatically lower that amount

Same with pretty much any player we want rid of though. What else are the club meant to do with players they don't want any more?

and this is why I have been saying FSG are in a difficult position because the players they will want to move on wont generate much if any cash and will cost a huge amount in terms of pay offs

Really really difficult position for FSG imo

i read somewhere that fsg have told BR to generate cash from players sales to fund transfer targets of his own

Sounds like he'll be off to Newcastle on loan. Don't see any benefit in that for ourselves, personally. Only thing is that he won't play against us and might take points off our rivals.

It's amazing that a club that ends up 8th in the Premiership has the luxury of loaning out players like Cole, Aquilani and Carroll.
