TBH I'd take that for him.

I like Carroll I think he could still play a decent role for us so I'm happy for him to stay but at the end of the day 17 mill is a lot, we could buy some decent quality with that.

There could be 80 or so thousand reasons.

The England striker Andy Carroll will leave Liverpool only for a club who can provide him with European football.

The 23-year-old is keen to stay at Liverpool and prove himself to the new manager, Brendan Rodgers, but is coming to terms with the fact that he may not be required at Anfield.

Carroll's former club, Newcastle, and West Ham are among those interested in him but he is not prepared to move on anyone's terms but his own. Newcastle can offer European football after their fifth-placed Premier League finish last season but West Ham cannot.

Rodgers has said there is no chance of Carroll leaving Liverpool on loan but said last week: "If an offer comes in for any player at the club we would either look at it, or dismiss it, and Andy's no different to that."

No quotes from him there though.

Asked if there had been any offers for Carroll, Rodgers said: "Not that I am aware of. Obviously I'll know more when we get back.

"There has been a lot written about Andy, but you saw today he's happy to be here and he's worked very well since he's been here.

"The reality is he's still a Liverpool player, he can fit into how I want to play, and he's happy here.

"I'm certainly not wishing to push him out of the door."

Bar that pass, don't think he looked too out of place.

I don't like the idea of going into the new season with Borini and/or Dempsey as our only potential CF's.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think BR is posturing. Of course he'll say he doesn't want to lose Andy, saying otherwise would be financial suicide

carroll can still be a huge player for us. with suarez and borini playing either side it would cut down on the need for andy to be as "mobile" and just focus on being the battering ram he can be.

                          i hope he stays.
