I must be the only person in the world who is glad he's gone. The 6 goals in 44 league games indicates he will hardly be missed and at least we don't have to pay his wages any more. And even if we sell him for £14m next summer, we would have recouped £19m as West Ham are covering his wages for this season. Good riddance - he was never good enough IMO
While it may be true that he featured in 44 league games alot of those were from the bench, in terms of game time he played 2417mins which equates to a goal every 4.4 games, still a poor record but nowhere near as bad as 6 in 44 suggests.
Anyway the issue isn't so much about whether Carroll went or not it is about him not being replaced. If he had been replaced I doubt much would have been said, the fact that he hasn't is cause for concern. For me I think Carroll could have got a decent amount of goals as a back up striker, in a side that struggles to score goals as we do this could make a big difference to where we end up in the table.
Even considering it from a financial point of view if the extra goals he could have provided could get us an extra couple of places in the table his wages pay for themselves. If those goals make the difference between European football or not we make a big profit, if those goals make the difference between CL and Europa League we make a huge profit.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
Carroll is perfect for a fat Sam team - he was never the right fit for the type of football a team attempting to challenge for the top would play.
True, all that money last season was spent on players to play to his strength's but we then asked them to play a different system and hardly played Carroll at all.
