Hodgson has done nothing to improve England, in fact their performance at the Euros was a joke, even more so than the last WC imo.

People will point to how Hodgson did not have alot of time to prepare for the euros and he didn't but the way they approached that game against Italy was truly pathetic even in the circumstances.

Capello was and is a much better coach imo, didn't he lead them very well in qualifying for south africa???? before the inevitable happened and they choked under pressure at the actual tournament. Hodgson is yet to accomplish that so im not sure how he is any better than his recent predecessors.

The stricter autocratic management of capello has been hinted at as an excuse for them not performing, but thats all it is, i don't think they will go any better because hodgson is percieved to be more laid back, and while he may speak the english language naturally, he does not use it very well, at least not in interviews.

England will probably get to Brazil in 2014 and for a while some may percieve a slither of hope/progress but like usual it will most likely be crushed at the round of 16 or quarter final stages, Hodgson will be sacked, journalists who once tried to find optimism in his approach to the game will slate his tactics, the wolves will be out for any ageing english player, and then finally people will start to come out and say the key is to overhaul how youngsters are developed in England as part of a longer term grass roots strategy, before once again building optimism about the appointment of a successor who is strong where hodgson was weak and will succeed where he failed at euro 2016. and so the cycle continues.

Hodgson works as a coach at mid table premierleague teams like fulham or west brom, i'm not convinced he will ever improve England.

Spot on I might add, if England ever do properly overhaul the youth system with an influx in trained coaches they might actually break the cycle within the next few generations, with the sheer number of players from there, they are bound to put together a team one day.

Although England aren't much more than a mid-table team so arguably that's appropriate.

I totally agree about the poor performance in Euro 2012. Thanks to Capello's leadership, England were seeded in the top four yet didn't make the semi-finals. They didn't even win their group!

He clearly has a worse record in competitive games than Capello - the only defence is that it's still relatively early days. I'm not expecting much improvement though.

And if England don't win their group then the case against will be irrefutable.
