The very fact that this is all out there, with statements from both sides etc, means this interview is a mere formality.
Lets hope so, if it's the usual FA old-school dealing with this then I guess he's a shoo-in, if however the FA have finally decided to do things professionally, they may actually listen to what he says and realise how crazy it would be to appoint him, knowing our luck this will be the one time they decide to do things properly...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Think it's done, it's gonna be him. Can't see the FA mulling over this for longer.

Think some papers are already comparing it to Clough not getting the job, against the will of the majority...........such a collective, underwhelming groan from the likes of Sky etc. Hilarious.

Just had the clip of Roy banging his head from a few months ago.......who doesnt want to see something similar this summer ??

I'm hoping he tears his face off live on telly in the summer

The Clough / Redknapp comparisons are very similar but Roy getting this job is very reminiscent of him getting the job with us. No ****er wanted him here except the odd mentalist

Roy will come under tremendous pressure as soon as the results go even slightly off kilter and we all know he doesnt cope well with pressure

Not to worry, I'm sure some integral member of the team will be getting some personal blame.

BBC Radio 5live's senior football correspondent, Ian Dennis, on Roy Hodgson's candidacy:

"He is somebody who ticks a lot of the boxes. He's got international experience with Switzerland and Finland and this isn't just about the 2012 European Championships - it's a wider picture.

"This is a long-term appointment, three tournaments in four years including the 2016 European Championships, embracing everything about the new national football centre at St George's Park and he ticks a lot of the boxes. I expect it to be resolved within 48 hours."

How do the two top-flight bosses stack up against each other?

Hodgson has managed three international sides - Switzerland, Finland and the mighty United Arab Emirates - while taking charge of sides in eight different countries. Redknapp has a 2008 FA Cup-winners medal with Portsmouth and has guided Tottenham to the Champions League last eight.

              LOLCANO!

I think he got sacked at the UAE

He'll be 68 if he manages to see out his contract.

hahahaa I'm awake the day after news broke and I wasnt dreaming!!!

The FA must be skint and looking to get the cheapest manager they can get away with

                      I see 3 reasons:

One, like you mentioned Dave, they don't have to buy out Redknapp's contract.

Two, they actually see him as a competent manager, one whose 'experience' in loads of different countries with different styles of football will stand him in good stead 'because he's know got quality players to deal with'.

Three, if the **** hits the fan, they can always sack him and get Redknapp in.

But the logic is flawed in my humblest of, if (ie. when) he were to get the sack after dismal results, Redknapp will probably be mid-season and/or **** them off, being only 2nd in line.

It's amazingly funny, all the Sky and media ejaculation in this country and how they saw it as inevitable that Redknapp would get the job... Bodge will get double the **** when results don't go his way. It's going to be the funniest episode of the England management circus since Hoddle and McLaren. Comical.

The FA really are clowns...I love it!

Can't wait for the rest of the country to find out just how incompetent the man really is!

I really hope he gets it. All the knobs who went on about how we were undignified in sacking him will be able to enjoy him at first hand. Really hope it happens. It has to happen.

I can't get too excited, they might still do a Levy shake-over and try to pry Redknapp away. Not that they'd succeed... but I really hope it'll happen. I really will watch every bit of England just for the pure comedic value.
