It is not always the best team in the competition who wins it, but to suggest that because we have qualified from a difficult group makes us one of the favourites, I don't think many people would believe that. We believe we can give a very good account of ourselves and then who knows? The important thing is we are there. We know it is going to be a very tough task, especially in Brazil where a European team has never succeeded before.

Now, I know we're not going to win the World Cup and the media hype will be crazy prior to the tournament starting, but jeez, we only just qualified two days ago; the draw hasn't even taken place yet!

What happens if we get drawn in [cliche alert!] the group of death? 'We *definitely* can't win it now'? Will he just say we're going for the experience? Roy has played his pessimistic card too soon.

I can't believe the guy thinks it was a tough group and that just reaching the World Cup is a massive achievement - qualification should be any England managers minimum target. Still, at least they can improve their tan whilst they make up the numbers.

Because it's from his generation i suppose, and it's an analogy that tickles him knowing Bodger and he was trying to use it to get the point across to Smalling that he had to give the ball to Towsend at every opportunity, he'd have said the same thing had it been two white players he was adressing.
