I think you have to look at Welbecks international record, which is pretty good when you consider his selection. Alongside the paucity and inexperience of the alternatives.

Cleverley is a much odder selection - that said Hodgson has clearly rated him from the get go and more or less built his sides around him early on so it was predictable.
