    I don't think that is as bad a team as many make out. Baffling choice to use Jones rather than Stones and Walker is terrible but other than that it is a pretty solid, unspectacular international team. The unwillingness of Hodgson to have any sort of progressive game plan (in a friendly) is a much bigger problem for the tournament ahead.

    If you want play as back to the wall defenders then you need to be picking your best defense and two disciplined deep midfielders.

    I would quite happily extend that to include the other 3 of the back 4 as well
