Its the one time that me and my Manc/Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea etc mates can all get together and support the same team

Nice to have a beer and all hurl abuse at TV together

You talk about Patriotism like its a bad thing. People that use it as a tool for hate are scum agreed. But to not support the team because of a stupid minority is cutting your nose off to spite your face really. Have you been to an England game recently? Its a completely different set of people to the ones who went 10-15 years ago.

Now...I'm not patriotic or nationalistic, have no sense of pride in being English, I detest the majority of the players in the squad, I see our players coming back from international duty injured, I hate the numbskull Ingerlund fans and their ****ty songs and right wing views, I despise the FA and after all England is their team. So **** them. I can't turn my loathing for those players on and off like a tap - I can't stand most of them for 50 weeks a year. Can't just pretend I like them for a fortnight.

And now I hate their manager. So **** em. Hope it's a total disaster.
          Yup. Me too.

I've said it before, but I think nationalism tends to bring out the worst in people, no matter which country. This one particularly though.

          Do I support England? No.
Do I feel English? Not really.
          Oh I don't know.

Support based on nationality is a no-no for me. If it's regarding ideals and principles, then I've no problem with it.

For me, I've never connected with the national team, as much as I tried, I couldn't. I didn't/don't like the players, I don't like this country and I don't like the stuff players come out with about pride and all that.

The last England game I went to was during Euro 2004 in Portugal against Switzerland. It was a nice experience, but I only went because it was an offer I couldn't refuse.

The only closeness I've ever had with a national team is Brazil. The way they embrace football and capture the essence of playing the game is something I haven't forgotten experiencing. I have no connections with the country.

              Exactly the same for me.

As a kid i loved wtching england WC 90, Euro 96 BUT For me one of the biggest issues with England and the disaffection i feel towards them is that they play in London at Wembley. When the team were playing around the country while Wembley got rebuilt for me was better as it gave everyone up and down the country a chance to see them without having to travel hundreds of miles down to London.

These days though the only interest i have in england is seeing our players come back without injury. After the Suarez stuff i feel even more against the FA and england and loved it when they lost the 2018 world cup to Russia and the moaning afterwards from our FA made it even more funny.

Joey Barton made that very point on Newsnight

(Never thought I would have to type that sentence)

To me, the FA and the National side are separate.
It's about the nationalist crap that most england fans come out with. It's despicable. I hate the England team, the FA and ****s like Hodgson and the rest of that boys band.

I'm not English but I would feel the same if I was.

I had a spat on fb with a Fulham fan who was lauding the appointment of Bodgson. After they beat us he treated scousers as cunts and by the same token treated Kenny as a 'sweaty jock'. That's the kind of **** that pisses me off with the whole ingurlund mentality.

                          I support England

Can see why people don't but I enjoy getting behind my national side, I dont't *cheer* when England score a goal though, not like I do us.

I hadnt noticed that until now when I thought about it

But in reality, that isn't the whole England mentality. Most people watch the games, chat about games superficially at work and are generally pretty nonplussed. You're generalising massively.

The example quoted is also a club spat. Not an international one.

                                'Sweaty jock' refers to nationality.
